Why are Texas recruits so coveted?

It may be different for other teams, but lately it seems like Arkansas' in-state talent has been head and shoulders above the Texas recruits coming in.

I liked the point Urban Meyer had when he was on espn a few years ago. He said Texas players tend to be more polished because of the quality of coaching they receive at the high school level, while Florida players tend to be raw but very athletic and more talented. I found that interesting, even though it isn't very relevant to your post

You don't see very many "All-Texas" squads like that capable of performing to the level of those groups.

Hypothetically, if Arkansas could cherry pick any in-state kids they wanted and never lost Arkansas kids to their neighbors, you could probably field a pretty competitive football team made up of nothing but Arkansas kids. But the state doesn't have enough talent to feed more than 1 perennial top 15-25ish team. If you lose even a few of your in state targets to Bama/A&M/LSU, etc, you have no choice but to hope for the best in other states to fill the void.
Texas has enough talent to field 2 elite level college football teams and 3-4 top 15-25ish teams. Usually that means 2 of A&M/OU/UTex are top 10 teams with almost all Texas talent, while the one left out is a notch down. Then you've got Baylor/TCU/TT/OSU also feeding almost exclusively off of Texas talent, and while not considered mainstays in the top 10, they've all had 10+ win seasons in the last 5-6 years.
We've had more in common with that bottom group that OU and UTex for most of the last 15 years, but since Sumlin's arrival and the conference change I think OU is becoming the odd man out, and has to hope for overachieving with lesser talent like OSU/TT/Baylor have done at times.

Texas offensive players should be coveted, especially QBs.
If you want D-Lineman then you need to look to the original SEC footprint.
And FL is best for speed. Especially DBs.

Actually it is, Florida players have more potential/higher ceilings, while many Texas players do not pan out or reach "projections" as many have peaked in HS.

Well, there have been a couple Heisman winning QBs from the SEC during that stretch

All three of these QB's had lines that could give them all day to throw and Wilson still had better stats than 2/3 with absolutely no protection at all.

How many NFL players are from tx? How many tx kids are college all-Americans?
