Can it just be torn down and have a new stadium be built close by the Softball stadium on the Bryce property?

The decision for a massive overhaul was a combination of saving a historical facility and the University having other plans for the Bryce property.

what are those other plans?

You have a University that will be nearing 40,000 students in the next decade. More housing is needed. The main building of the property will be preserved as well. That doesn't leave much room for athletic facilities.

They are capping enrollment at 33k. That's what I heard.
I'm all for the Joe being renovated, just make it very friendly to the students. Some like what Ole Miss does would be ideal....

According to this UA article, they have other plans for the Bryce property.
Looks like more residential buildings and parkings lots are planned on the property closest to the river.
And historically, it's named for Joe Sewell, former Bama baseball player and head coach, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 1977.
Also, the New York Yankees played an exhibition game at Bama in the stadium back in the 1978.
Reggie Jackson actually played at the Joe.

I like current location. You can catch a basketball game and then walk over for baseball.

This is wrong. We were over 33 last fall. Will approach 35 this fall. The plan is to get to 40k.

That's what I thought, but I didn't respond since I'm not in the loop as much these days.

Yeah, there is a reason they are expanding dining halls, adding dorms, and adding another rec center. There is no sign of cutting back attendance at all. We are bringing in more and more out of state students which means more money for the university and more growth.
