I would rather be lucky than good any day.

Why didn't Sumlin better prepare for UF and LSU?

Some of number 3, but the games aren't played in a vacuum. Alabama had just played a very physical and highly emotional game against LSU and it showed in the first half.

A&M barely beat a depleted Bama team that had just went through an absolute war in the most hostile environment in college football during a mid day game. Bama is going to sodomize A&M in '13.

Also Cock Ring, you're not taking into account the very physical, emotional, game that Bama played against LSU the week before. A&M will not be playing a Bama team that just got pounded on by LSU the week before this time. And 20 points won't be spotted right out of the gate either....But troll on Cock Ring, troll on honky.

Easy answer, both LSU and UF didn't have the snot beaten out of them on the field the wknd before they played them. Yes , A&M you can thank us for that

Some of the play-calling was kind suspect though. Seems like bama was throwing the ball a lot more than normal in that game.

They were down 20
And our pass D was our weak spot. But no excuse for 4 passes from inside the 5 yard line. I think Saban just over thought things for once. Sumlin was in his head. I mean, when else has Bama won a coin toss and elected to receive the ball?

About half the time over the last 3 years

I think I've watched more Bama games than you. In '08 and '09 we always deferred (with exception of '09 SECCG). The last 3 years, it's been pretty much a toss-up because the offense hasn't been the liability it was in the early years

4. Manziel's adlib, and ability to extend the play was the difference. Bama lost containment and that made the difference.
JM vs Fla 173 passing 60 rushing 1 TD's
JM vs Lsu 276 passing 27 rushing 3 turnovers
JM vs Bama 253 passing 92 rushing 2 TD's
One of those TD's was to Swope on an extended play. I also give more credit to Swope, personally, imo. He did a terrific job at adjusting his routes and got open for JM a lot.
One other factor, was Bama's inability to move the ball in the first quarter. Why they went to passing so much, and staying with it, when it wasn't working is beyond explanation.

No doubt. I watch plenty of Bama games although I do not pay attention to your coin tosses. I was going by what the announcers in that game said.
After researching just now it seems Bama does receive more often than I thought but its normally if there's wind involved.
-Nick Saban
Looks like Nick was trying to keep our offense off the field as he thought the best matchup to exploit was Bama O vs A&M D.
But don't blame me for being lied to by Verne Lundquist. I shouldn't have to fact check announcers

Alahunter, I remember y'all's passing game working better than your running game. Didn't AJ have 3 50 yard pass completions in the 4th Q?

Implementing the "cramp" strategy to slow the offense down in the second half is not equal to preparation.
Boom is a joke, as he showed in his bowl game, and doesn't belong in this thread.

Verne probably remembered that the '08 and '09 Bama teams always deferred. He's not always so good on staying up to date on things.

It picked up eventually. The 1st qtr was not good though. Lacy was ripping off almost 6 yards a carry for the game.
1st qtr for Bama
EL rush 0 yds
AJ rush 2 yds
AJ incomplete
punt
EL rush 18 yds
EL rush 5 yds
AJ incomplete
AJ Int
Yeldon rush -4 yds
AJ pass complete 5 yds
AJ incomplete
punt
Yeldon rush 4 yds
Yeldon rush 4 yds
end qtr score 20-0
AJ 1 for 5 for 5 yds and INT
TOP for Bama in 1st qtr, about 5 minutes.
JM had 5 scrambles in the 1st qtr for 74 yds of his 92 yds rushing in the game. 2 of the rushes were on 3rd and 6 and 3rd and 7 yds, extending one drive that resulted in a TD.

This is what I was getting at.

This is the same Will Muschamp who was the only coach to stop Tebow twice, let's not forget that.
