If they can't change his mind, they'll grant him the release eventually. Question is which schools they'll permit
I think the standard would be to restrict transfer to all ACC schools, UF (in-state), and anybody on the schedule. It wouldn't be out of the question for them to also restrict UGA due to proximity (recruiting related) and USC due to potential tampering (which has been a rumor for a few weeks).

sounds like jarvis redux. make this shite happen!

He did but he had gone through spring training at UF IIRC. He requested a waiver to be eligible immediately but was denied

Didnt Auburn running back Mike Blakely have to sit out a year when he transferred? Isn't this a similar situation?
He enrolled. I know this because I have a Florida fan who bitches about paying for him to have surgery and rehab before transferring to AU.

Not shocking. He wanted USC before signing day, his mom wanted FSU. Mom won out. Apparently his mom has been out of the Country for a while. There's going to be a meeting with her, the coach, and Matt when she comes back.
I doubt FSU is going to release him (if they can't come to an agreement).

Those type of additional restrictions have generated a lot of negative PR in some bball transfers recently. Especially if the player and his family are willing to go to the media and bitch about how unfair it is. My guess is they just restrict ACC teams and anyone on their schedule

They will. They always do. Its not worth the negative press.

I would think they would release him just to save face. You don't want to look like the big bad football program that won't let a kid play for 2 years. Public opinion won't look at that positively.

What negative press? He signed a contract and wants to breach?
My prediction is that this will all work out in the end. Again, I doubt FSU is going to let him off the hook.

Whether Thomas meant USC to be USCe or USCw I do not believe he should be released from his Letter unless he agrees to transfer directly to USCe, since we need LBs.
Even if he did want to transfer to USCe, I do not think we have the scholly to give from last year ... oh wait, yes we do.
If he insists on going to Georgia then I am afraid we are all going to need to rise-up and insist that not be allowed - that he needs to stick to his word and his commitment to FSU.

If he gets it granted then more kids will think that they can do it.

It's not necessarily fair to the school but it is what it is. It will look bad if they don't release him and can't convince him to stay on his own accord.

There's no denying FSU has the right to not release him. It's just not the smart play if he's determined to go elsewhere.

Find me 1 time where a school didnt give a kid his release.

Kids transfer all the time. This will change nothing.

How is it the smart play? Some schools are ok with it given certain circumstances. There is no indication that FSU would grant the release.
You sign a contract knowing what happens if there is a breach. That's the way it is. If he was determined to go elsewhere, he should have signed with USC.

I mentioned this on the Alabama board, but does it not seem that even with some success, Jimbo can't keep coaches or players in Tallahassee. They had a lot of de-commits in the last recruiting class and saw a lot of staff turnover this past winter.

And if he doesn't get it granted, his case will be used by the growing player advocate movement that is attempting to modify the whole NLI system and transfer restrictions to be less restrictive on players
