You gents are engineering students, what kind of sweet talking and bribing do I have to do to get one of y'all to use the 3D printers on campus to run me a prototype so I can see if my CAD drawings are good to go. I just need one, but a handful would be nice.
Just a simple sphere, with concentric grooves, an easy peasy design.
We can start the bidding with tickets to FoamFest tomorrow.

I'm just a civil engineer, I don't even know where the 3D printers are
But I could be convinced to find it for the right price
ETA: Title made me think this would be Missouri-related

supposedly MEand the architecture depts have them. The Dean's office sent me to some kind of Arkansas Manufacturing consortium done through the university system and the chick there is kinda clueless. She tried to push me to UAFS's drafting dept. AFTER I told her I have the 3D cad drawings and just need to print them for a cheap little prototype.
I'm willing to pay for it, and I'd rather make a donation to the university and give a student some additional experience than overpay a prototyping company to just print the thing since all the design/measurements/tolerances is already done. I already know where the companies in Pakistan that can produce this product are, so a consultant isn't going to tell me anything I don't already know. (95% of the world's inflatable hand stitched sports balls are made in one region of Pakistan, and the guy that did my 3D drawing lives in Pakistan and has some connections to the Manufacturing sector there.)
So go find the 3D printer and run a couple copies for me, you guys pay a student fee for them actually if you didn't know that.
And F Mizzou.

Lol I am pretty aware of where our "college of engineering" fee and "print/mail/copy fee" goes. I am on your side and would be willing to help
Are you thinking you would send me whatever needs to be printed and then I give you the model?

As long as I don't need some secret password or access to some hidden room I am ok with helping

I think all you'd need to do is find what lab they're in, and double check with who's in charge of the lab and they should get you set up.
I'm more than happy to assist, I can go with. I'm really intrigued by the process. You can get a small desktop 3D printer for as cheap as $1200 these days and I saw a good professional level one from Stratasys for around $2800. If I was regularly creating products I'd get one, but this ball is the only thing I foresee needing modeled for a long time. Maybe some tweaks here and there, but the base design is golden I think.

Ok, I will look into it. Are you looking for this to happen within the next week?

Wish I could help but I don't have any contact with them.
just googled and saw an article about architecture using them. I don't know anyone with access.

well I've waited a couple years, so I figure a few more weeks won't hurt.
but you know how it is with business, ASAP is almost too late because it's not NOW!!!!
I'll email ya in a bit, and we'll figure out a time that works for us both.
