The Southeastern Conference is weighing options for bowl-game plans starting in 2014, including adding the Belk Bowl and having discretion to slot its own teams among a five-game platform, according to sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

The league has briefed bowl officials about a potential formula involving Belk, Music City, Gator, Meineke Car Care and possibly Outback in which the league would decide, with input from bowl officials, which SEC teams play in those games.

Losing Chick Fil A and Cotton to playoff while adding bowls in North Carolina and Houston to replace will give the fans some new venues.

They need to do something to get better matchups and not having the same team go to the same bowl over and over.

So only two of those would be new bowls, right? The rest would remain the same.

Normally I'd agree about bowl games in baseball stdiums being lame, but as far as lower tier bowls go, the Pinstripe bowl seems pretty solid.

I'd like to take one game away from Florida and add one in Texas; preferably the Alamo. I know the Alamodome isn't great, but San Anton is a great city to visit. I'd also like to see us play the Pac 12 in a bowl, and that would allow us to do so

Where did you get Cinci from?

A Houston bowl would be okay (not great). Texas is a huge market and now has an SEC team. With Cotton being part of the playoff, it makes sense to have a Texas based bowl game.

The other one they are talking about is Belk. IMO Belk makes a great replacement for Peach Bowl which is also going to be in the playoff. Make it an SEC-ACC game and it makes sense.

Neither of those is a glamorous destination, but IMO they both make sense. I'd rather have them than Independence (Shreveport) and BBVA (Compass).

The Florida Bowls are nice, but places like the Alamo Bowl would be a good change of pace and more importantly get away from the annoying repeat SEC/BIG 10 matchups.

Playing a Pac 10 team in San Antonio would be a fun finish to a season.

With the SEC Network being based in Charlotte this may be the nearest thing to a done deal, and it probably will be an SEC-ACC matchup. (Belk is also my favorite place to shop so that's another reason I want them in the mix)

Because Cincinnati won the Belk Bowl, and my reading comprehension is apparently shite.

So yeah, Charlotte. Which isn't great, but is a damn bit better than going to Cinci in December or January.

I've got friends in Charlotte...I'd be okay with AU going there.

Possibly. But I had a blast in Nashville the last time AU went. Granted, there is a lot more to do in Nashville compared to Charlotte, but I can't imagine the weather is much different.
