Won't this whole playoff system fall apart?

The moment the selection committee selects a team outside the top 4 at the end of the year?

Or do I need educating on how the rankings will work?

I think they're making their own poll

They should just use computer rankings and the top 4 get in. Leave biased people out of it

If they weren't going to make conference champs a requirement, then they should of kept the BCS poll, and use only that.
So instead they will use only 15 people, and their inherent biases.

It'll fail when their circle jerk partners don't get in. aka ND, OSU, USC. This system will stay intact until a school with enough power doesn't make it.

That is correct.

The computers are just as biased as the people who write the programs

Are the other polls (AP, Coaches) still going to be around? I imagine there will be quite a bit of pressure on the committee to not deviate from these polls too much. Coaches can still influence in that way.

That really doesn't make any sense. The computer polls are not allowed to change their mind at the end of the season. They apply the same standards and rules from start to finish.

The NCAA screwed the playoff system when they agreed to this 15 person committee. Should have been BCS top 4 teams.

Probably, but I don't think it's been determined if they will have any influence on the playoff poll

There is no standard as to what constitutes a computer poll. So you can manipulate the program that creates the poll anyway you want.

The stupid public wanted this, now they'll see why it's a bad idea.

The computer polls are based on specific algorithms. So there is a "standard" more or less. But only one poll (it escapes me which one) makes that algorithm public knowledge, so there's that.

Unless the computer poll is designed to give certain specific teams more weight in the calculations (like a win for ND counts double what a win for Boise does), I fail to see how having no standard is bad. You need different ways to rank teams so you have a wide array.

They are based on the algorithms that the poll creator wrote. If they wanted to weight one thing over another it would be easy to do.

This. And the algorithms are rarely released

Actually no, it will get worse...

When a team is jilted at #5 or so, the "don't cry, a year or so ago you'd have had no argument" won't be valid and the cry will go out to EXPAND the playoffs. It will take multiple incidents and years, but in 20 years or so we'll ave a 16 team playoff and wonder what the hell happened.

I can already foresee how this thing will turn out:

SEC Champion = IN.
Loser of SEC Championship game = automatically out.
2 loss or under Notre Dame = IN.
Big 10 or 12 champ = IN.
Pac 12 champ = IN.
Top four ranked SEC team not in the SEC championship game = OUT.

Every damn year. If you think more than one SEC team will make it in, you're crazy.

Not at all, and I agree that the loser of the SECCG is most likely out.
