USC is getting really deep at TE. We already have the best group of TE's in the SEC coming back next year. This is a position of need, b/c I expect all 3 of our current Top TE's to be gone in 2 years.

Thinking Drew Barker is next within the next few weeks. Just posted ''Big news is coming'' on twitter. Kentucky made a push, but i think our lead was too big to overcome.

I was thinking Barker was going to commit soon, but it depends on OSU offering. Now that Watson is out of play for them, they might start making a stronger push for him.

JC was drafted as Mr Irrelevant, you are correct. He will make the team and play on Sundays. Great ballplayer. He joins former Gamecock TE and teammate Wesley Saunders with the Colts. Justice Cunningham is actually one of my all-time favorite Gamecocks. Huge heart, huge work ethic, very good hands and a solid blocker. The Colts stole him.
We've also got Jared Cook already with the Titans at TE in the NFL, that makes three in the league. Cook might make all-pro this year if they'll throw the ball to him more. Fastest TE in the league.
We have returning, Jerell Adams, 6-6 240 and Buster Anderson 6-5 235 both with a lot of experience, and then Drew Owens 6-6 255. All three will play on Sundays even though Owens is headed for the OLine if he keeps gaining weight. All three are underclassmen.
Adams is one of the most gifted athletes I have ever seen for a man his size. Anderson is money in the bank in the redzone this year. You'll see a lot of two tight end sets out of South Carolina this year.
Kalan Richie is a big time pick-up.
Recruit as many great TEs and LBs as you can because they are the best athletes on the field.
Two years ago, I think it was, we signed the #4 or 5 TE in the country in Kelvin Rainey. Today he is a RFr linebacker and kicking arse at 6-3 235.

Yeah, really. Better than Lynch and Rome.
I will give UGA the nod in terms of depth though. Seems like y'all always have four or five walk-ons at TE that could play for a lot of schools. And y'all do like signing those big white boys ... but they can't run like our guys can.

Jay Rome is ok, not great.

Rory had 3 more TDs and 100 more yards then Rome did so I'd take him over Rome. Rory didn't even start too.

Yep, we currently have our tight end roster as follows:
Busta Anderson (true jr.): 6-5, 218
Jerrell Adams (true so.): 6-6, 224
Drew Owens (rs so.): 6-6, 241
Jeff Homad (rs jr. walk-on): 6-2, 224
Returning TEs that played:
Anderson: 14 receptions, 271 yds 5 tds
Adams: 4 rec. 90 yds, 1 td
That's as the #2 and #3 TEs, behind Cunningham's 23 catches for 324 yds, 0 tds. USC apparently had 41 receptions from it's TEs last season for 685 yds and 6 tds. By comparison UGA had 35 receptions for 583 yds and 5 tds from Lynch and Rome. I guess they were your only TEs last season??
Anderson averaged 19.4 yds per reception and Adams 22.5, and that's pretty much what we'll expect from them as they are fast, athletic receivers. Anderson in his true Fr. season in 2011 had 8 catches for 188 yds (23.5 ypc) and 3 tds: 8 touchdowns in only 22 receptions is pretty impressive. He is tied with Ellington as our top returning receiver in career receiving TDs (Ellington has 57 career receptions)...

Good pick up. What happens with Crosby now though?
USC is becoming TEU.

I can relate to that, as I don't have a damn clue who LSU's TEs are for next season. And I didn't have a damn clue who LSU's TEs were last season either. Or the season before. Or the season before. Or the season before. Or the season before......

Crosby is a take, b/c he is a hybrid player (like Rainey is.) We could put Crosby at TE, FB, or even LB. Who knows, he might come in and win the starting job in '14, not likely but it could happen.
The way I see it, if Rory has a monster year this year, and ends up being All SEC, then he's an early out. In 2014, Adams (who was a Freshman All SEC last year) will be 3 years out of HS and in position to have a great season, with Dylan as the QB, so he could be an early out as well. Owens could have either transferred, switched positions, by then...or he could end up starting his Sr year.
We moved Rainey to LB, and I think that is going to stick, so we need some depth at TE now to develop for when those 2 guys leave.

That's b/c both Rory and Jerrell were Freshman All SEC TE's...you guys don't look at the offensive side of that list.
