This is the best idea I have seen this far. Great post and great idea.
All of college football makes a lot more money and all of this conference realignment talk is no more, just the best team. Your non Power 6 teams have no qualms either.

It would definitely determine the ultimate champion, with seven other, smaller champions. And I doubt it'd make a lot more money; although it'd guarantee 14 games for each team, there are no bowl games.

I don't think relegation would work in college football or college sports in general because of the high turnover in athletes. One years championship team could be awful the next year (See: Auburn). One years awful team could be champions next year (See: Auburn).
You just have teams changing too much to base them in a relegation format. You're basing the current years team off last years team when they could be completely different.

That's a pretty legitimate argument. The system would definitely be in favor of building and sustaining a program, rather than "one and done" championships. In that case, though, Auburn would've been a division II or III champion, while Oregon or Bama would've won division I.
But this thread is about turning that system into a real life rating formula.
