Former UA President, Guy Bailey, leading candidate at NMSU

So apparently his wife made some miraculous recovery in record time. His "reason" for leaving Alabama was her health. In the linked article he seems to blame a "lack of privacy" as one reason. Lots of folks seem to think his hard line on Greeks is what got him run off.

Bailey said he left Alabama in October after 58 days in the president's office due to his wife's poor health. A two-time cancer survivor, treatments left his wife's body struggling to properly absorb nutrients from food, he said. A month after the couple began at Alabama, she began to rapidly lose weight. The university's president's house was also in the middle of campus with little privacy, unlike NMSU, he said.
His wife is now healthier than she has been in years, Bailey said, and the two are ready to take on another presidency.
They have no plans to continue NMSU's high turnover in the president's office and plan to spend eight or 10 years at NMSU before retiring, Bailey said.

No one bought his reason for leaving and everyone figured he'd pop up somewhere sooner rather than later. Don't know what really happened but all's well that ends well

From what I recall in an article, it wasn't that his wife was in any immediate health crisis but due to past health issues feared the demands put upon her as the wife of UA president would be too much. Apparently the spouses of presidents at other universities just sit back on the couch and eat bon bons. He claimed he didn't understand the involvement his wife would have at UA.

I loved Dr. Witt. He knew what he was doing- something I can't say for certain about Bonner

Witt is still running the university. Bonner is his puppet.
