DVH Named Manager for 2014 Collegiate National Baseball Team

, Van Horn

Look for Suitcase Mike to become the next Team USA basketball coach in a couple months.

I'd be mad if DVH swept my team too.

Nope DVH was a lock for the job. It's team USA. The best job is with the Dominican republic. That's the job PM turned down.

I would probably vote for the Vandy guy. He has done much with very little.

Hope you're not talking about talent with that "very little"

Much with little? Are you familiar with Vandy's baseball scholarship situation?

Easiest baseball school to recruit to in the country IMO...

Private institution can divide up money alot differently. Basically, they end up giving out over twice the scholarships that MSU and OM can to baseball players -- and players with good GPAs(I forget what it is exactly) can go for free. Ultimately, many baseball players can get a Vandy education for on average the same up front cost or cheaper than they can get a MSU or OM education...

ETA: I definitely agree that Corbin is a great coach though...

Thanks for the explanation, but how do they get around the title 9 numbers? All the other schools can give academic scholarships as well.

He'd join Childress in that category. (2010 Ags were preseason #1. Ended up getting eliminated by Army in the Ft. Worth regional)

Re vandy's scholarships....this is not what weenie fans, and several newspaper articles are saying. It's just the opposite, in that their tuition is so high, that with only 11 scholarships to offer, it ends up being too expensive for a recruit to enroll in the university. And the new rules mandate that any one player must get at least 25% of scholarship monies, severely restricting the amounts available for others. But you are saying that vandy can give out 22 scholarships ("twice the scholarships that MSU & O.Miss can give"). Sorry, that cann't be true.

Very easy to get around that "cost". These guys enroll at a private institution. They can have a sponsor foot part of the tuition in a "scholarship" named after some rich former player or scout. Vandy then gives them the scholarship for athletics. That lowers the value of what the recruit owes in tuition to lower than most state run schools. This allows guys to go to Vandy knowing they'll, at worst, be on the hook for 30-75k after they're finushed playing...depending on time spent at school. Now if they go to the mlb they pay that measly amount back quickly. If they have to brave the world with that vandy degree that cost as much as a degree from TN, Om, ARK, etc....they pay it back in 2 years with their salary.

MUCH MUCH EASIER to recruit to Vandy. Winning team, same as cost to lower esteemed universities, either a top mlb draft pick or a freaking vandy grad. No matter what, if my son was offered a "full" scholly to Vandy and one to ARK....my kid is going to Vandy. You'd be stupid to turn that down.
