Please sign the petition. Our aviation program is a very defining characteristic of our University and it would be a great loss to discontinue the program.

I keep asking this question to the Save AU Aviation people, but I can never get an answer:
How much money does the University spend per enrolled student in the Auburn Aviation program? How does that compare to other schools? What is the total in-state and out-of-state tuition to be enrolled in the AU Aviation program as compared to the cost of the program?
Is the enrollment into the program rising? Falling? Steady?

While I can't tell you the exacts on that, when I was there any flight time (plane, fuel, instructor) costs were paid on top of tuition. This makes it very similar to other programs.
Once again, i am too far removed from school but the Auburn program is a main feeder into the airlines and Delta has been lobbying hard to have Auburn keep the program. From what I know the enrollment has been healthy although Auburn has not replaced instructors who have left.
In the end I as well can't give you those specifics you asked for, but I also don't see how there is no way to save the program. If it costs more, then do what it takes to make the program sustainable.

All I know is that universities rarely eliminate well reputed programs on a whim. If they are considering doing this, THERE IS A REASON.
I would like to know that reason. And then I would like to hear AU Aviation's rebuttal to that reason.
That way I can make a judgement using all available information. "Save AU Aviation!" sounds admirable, but without accompanying information, it's just an appeal to emotion. I prefer to make decisions based on the facts.
Though I sincerely commend you for your efforts and your dedication.

The program falls under the common market programs and out of state students get instate tuition their JR and SR years which lowers revenue for the program.
University pays a significant amount of money into the maintenance and upkeep of those planes and students do not pay for it.
Just how successful is the program at placing students at major airlines?
What is the benefit of this program?

Very high. One of Delta's biggest feeder programs. Just about every one of my friends who graduated from the actual aviation program have found jobs in the airlines.
I was a part of the common market scenario so that helped me a ton. Once again we don't have a breakdown of cost's but I did have to pay for every hour for plane rental, fuel and instructor time. That is not covered in tuition.

The biggest issue for the future of Aviation Management Program happened when they moved it away from the school of Engineering. Dr. Walker and the elitist in the SOE thought it took away from their program. The School of Business reluctantly brought the program into the fold. It then changed into just another Management Program. Industry did not see a great advantage hiring a AM graduate over a normal Management graduate because of the lack of the industrial emphasis part of the curriculum.
The Pro Flight Curriculum is twice as costly as most quicky Flight Schools. The fact that the Military and the Airlines have not trained or hired many pilots the last decade has hurt the program.
It is going to be hard to save the program. Not because of money, but because neither School (Bus/Eng) wants it part of their program.

Ran into Harrison the SGA president today and he briefly said he has been meeting with people all week.
They have been looking into a ton of different options. From privatizing the program, contracting out and also keeping it. Big thing is making sure that the program is cost effective. If it is just a drain then it is getting thrown out
