Okay? Wrong? Regrettable? Acceptable? Par for the course? Buyer beware?

I look at it as them telling the recruit what they want to hear...

I personally feel it is wrong. I realize embellishment happens and pumping up, but blatant dishonesty has no place in screwing with young men. I think parents and guardians have to take a big role here. Get heavily involved to help guide their kids choice, but not make it for them.

Depends, sometimes a situation changes and makes their previous statements invalid.

Then there's recruits hearing what they want to hear, rather than a coach telling them. They are told "If you work hard, you may be able to play early", they hear "You can start as a freshman". Then they get mad when it doesn't happen.

With the way these recruits lie and deceive coaching staffs, I see no problem with coaches lying to recruits and telling them what they want to hear. Coaches are the adults in the situation and they should be held higher but this is recruiting and its a dirty biz.

I think it's very wrong but it's just a part of what recruiting is. It sucks, but there's no way around it.
