What's your go to drinking strategy for pregaming and at the bar?

Lately I've been playing drinking games with brews and drinking my whiskey drinks on the side then copius amounts of whiskey at the bar. Needless to say it's not going too great in the next morning memories department or for my bank account. Thinking of just going from whiskey to beer to ease up on my wallet. What do you do?

I tend to drink whiskey/vodka for pregame then just pound beers once i get to the bar

I haven't had a whiskey drink in a couple months.

My drink of choice is always beer.
I just drink lots of beer before the bar. And then lots of beer at the bar.

$3 beers are bad enough but I can't do too many $8 whiskey cokes.. I'll never understand the outrageous alcohol prices at bars
