1983 Georgia Bulldogs: Making the Most of their First

Long, lots of trivia, and 99% basketball. If you hate hoops,Georgia and are of the t/l ,dr school do not read you will hate it. But if you are a Georgia fan, SEC history buff, you may enjoy it.

Hugh Durham's building of this squad is really under rated in SEC lore. Fantastic job. Until he got there, Georgia basketball was, well, shall we say "mediocre at best" ?

Still leading up to the 'Wonderdogs' Georgia does have some unique history -- some good, some not so good:

*Woodruff Hall was the only SEC gym with a "wind factor"

*a Dartmouth basketball coach's move in the 1940's indirectly led to 4 different SEC head coaches in basketball and football

* Georgia's 1967-1968 basketball team came within about an hour of suffering the same fate as the 1970 Marshall football team

* Bob Lienhard averaged over 20 pts and over 10 rebounds in his career, but was overshadowed by playing in the SEC the same time as Pete Maravich and Dan Issel

*colorful Babe McCarthy who took Miss State from obsurity to an SEC power and ABA coach, coached Georgia in 1973-- from April until September

Will read eventually.

But a couple of things I noticed:

1) Woodruff Hall was smaller than our football indoor practice facility

2) James Banks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Michael Jordan

Thanks for the link.
