Steven Jenkins -- Tears of Joy

quote:

“I will be the first one in my family to graduate,” Jenkins said with a smile. “I know my mother is going to be so happy for me. I just told her all about the Aggie ring and what it means, and she can hardly believe I am going to graduate from this university.”

I want to beat the hell out of everybody, but I love the way College Football provides these opportunities. I happy for this kid, and glad hung in there and got it done. He deserves it all. I am proud as hell that he is a representative of Texas A&M University and wears the Aggie Ring. He is breaking a trend that probably goes back for 10 generations. There is noting in this world that stirs my emotions than to see someone work his arse off to succeed.

...and DAMMIT!!! I got..something in my eye. No...leave me alone...it's just that damn rag-weed again...[sniff,sniff]...stupid allergies!!!

ETA/ETR: Removing the "free handout" comment so BrerTiger can stop shitting on my feel-good thread.

So, so happy for him. Think I need to dust my office again

Also, interesting personal sidenote, Jenkins wears the same jersey number (#45) that my little brother did when he was a freshman walkon in 2010. Always makes me think of my brother whenever I see that 45 flying around out there making plays, so that's kind of cool

While I applaud the kid for getting his degree and his success as an athlete, what leads you to conclude that he was never given a free handout?

And on those lines, aren't virtually all children given free handouts? It's not like I've made my 3 year old daughter go out and earn her keep. She's getting plenty of free handouts from me right now.

I assume you mean from the government. If so, how do you know his mom never got any government benefits that he benefitted from?

I'm happy for anyone who earns their college degree. The more educated people we have in America, the better
