How will Mobile be for a young professional single guy?
I realize Mobile isn't Nola, Houston or Atlanta.
Are there plenty of young professional gals to date? Cool bars? Obviously the gulf is a huge attraction.

Mobile is better than Birmingham if that means anything.

I'd take Mobile in a heartbeat over Birmingham. But I also love the Gulf, so TIFWIW.

I'd rather be in the other cities you mentioned but Mobile isn't terrible.
Where would you plan on living in town? I'm a native, so maybe I can help.

So much potential, so little actual awesomeness.

Being in the state of Alabama is really holding that city back. Has potential to be really really cool and it's just, meh.

It's too spread out. Downtown is basically surrounded by ghetto, so the locals don't make it downtown that often. It's not just because of the ghetto, but it's a pain in the arse because the city is so spread out. I know there is some good things happening in Mid City and some growth downtown (thanks the the Battlehouse re-opening).

My uncle actually owns a really cool Nola style duplex on the corner of Dauphin St & Houston St, so probably there. If not there, maybe a place in the Oakleigh neighborhood?

Mobile > Birmingham and Montgomery
Montgomery is the biggest shite hole of a city I've ever been to.

I spent 3 days in downtown Montgomery a few years ago. It was absolutely awful.

I don't even like passing through there.

I just moved back to Mobile from Dauphin Island. I picked a horrible time of year to do it, I know. But I found a nice deal on a house in mid town. It is also A LOT closer to where I work (ship yard BAE).
I lived on Dauphin Island for several years. It sucked during Katrina but other than that it was nice and quiet. The fishing during the summer was great.
I guess downtown Mobile is still a good time. I just haven't gone down there in a while.
I just think people who bash a place for being boring or whatever are the same ones who sit around the house and don't really try to have fun.
