I imagine they used up their one favor by blocking Louisville.

We play North Carolina on a pretty consistent basis already. Cal was all about playing Duke in our OOC as well (and we did in the Champions Classic). I don't believe we'd have a problem with either as shitty as our conference's RPI has been.

Who wants Duke in the SEC? That would be a terrible fit.

Eh. I don't know that the SEC was ever legitimately interested in Louisville because they have nothing to bring in terms of TV market.

The issue is long term viability beyond coach K and not really the hate level of Duke by many UK fans. If Louisville, Florida State, Clemson, and Georgia Tech do not get SEC invites and they bring much more to the table then why would Duke get preference when they bring less?

It seems Mizzou and TAMU were invited for new markets so adding UNC and UVA gets you 2 new states where adding UNC and Duke just gets you 1. Duke has basketball but their major success was built on a coach who is getting older. With Kentucky, Indiana, and Louisville moving back to their traditional past may weaken Tobacco Road going forward. The trend has been to add big state schools with lots of living alumni to feed the coffers. Duke has a higher percentage of grad students than most schools which means their fans are limited and may be already tied to where they went for undergrad.

UNC and NC State play in venues double the size of Duke and new ACC add Louisville seats almost 3 times as many. Unless Duke could build and fill a 18,000 to 24,000 seat venue they may become a team of the past once coach K is done there. The old rivalry was UNC vs NC State and both of those 2 schools had already hung 2 banners each before Duke hung their first in the 1990's.

Duke brings nothing, UNC would be the prize.
