I don't know man. He may have to strike while the iron is hot. SEC player of the year, weak NBA draft this year. I could definitely see him leaving after this season.

A week ago, all the rumors were he was leaning towards coming back. A few mock drafts had him falling (one had him all the way down to 30), and from an NBA perspective (not mine, or UGA fans, or for college, but simply the NBA) you can find a few big flaws in his game.

However, it is a somewhat weak class and winning SEC POTY might have actually been a bad thing for us in regards to him staying. Still, it is my hope that he realizes he SHOULD come back and improve his game. Not only would he greatly benefit from another year in college, but we could be a tourney team next year with him.

That's the problem with BB. When you get a really good player(s), you can't count on them for more than a year or two which means you either have to have a super Freshman team like Kentucky had last season or build a team of good but not great players like Butler has done in the past.

He's gone

He already won conference player of the year as a Sophomore. Time to play with some other real ball players and get paid. If yall thought it was hard to watch the Dawgs this year just wait until KCP declares

He very well may leave early, but I don't think it's nearly as certain as people are making it out to be.

Btw check out this gem:

quote:

In the last five minutes of SEC games this season, [Caldwell-Pope] averaged 5.4 points (projects to 43.2 points over a 40-minute game), shooting 65 percent from the field, 63 percent from 3-point range and 83 percent from the free-throw line. He scored 31 percent of his total of 332 points in SEC play during the last five minutes.

There are no real reasons to come back. The only thing you could argue is that he will come back to work on his game, which is not much of a reason at all considering how weak the draft will be. He just won Conference POY as a Soph. and has nothing left to prove on an individual level.

Sure he could come back and attempt to carry a mediocre team to the tourny but I highly doubt that is on his list of priorities. He is a star surrounded by a bunch of scrubs, time to move on.

85% He is gone

Dawgs will be a tourney team with or without KCP. Might be a 13 seed w/o him, but they'll still be a tourney team.

I think he stays though.

And even with that being the case, we still lost like 8 games this year in the final minute or 2. We were a ball bounce or 2 away from being a tourney team!

And like I said above, the guy is outstanding for UGA and one of my favorite players ever. But if we're talking about his game from an NBA exec's pov, he's got some issues. For one, he's lanky and not very physical. That's fine if your Kevin Durant, but KCP in the pros is gonna get knocked around. He rarely drives to the hole. Yes, I know he does sometimes, but he rarely breaks down a defender and drives to the basket. NBA people will notice that. There have been many times this year where we need a big play and he just stands out to the side behind the 3 point line and doesn't even try to get involved in the play. Yes, I know that there have been a number of times as well where he's an assasin and will start shooting daggers, but the film will show that sometimes he's non existent.

KCP has an oustanding stroke and is a good defender, but a lot of teams might not want to give him first round money then send him to the bench or the Dleague. Lou Williams was a similar type player coming out (could shoot from anywhere inside of halfcourt, slim frame, not much of a driver) and although he is NOW playing very well in the NBA, it took years of development to get there. I thought Trey would make an impact with his stroke and smooth inside game, and he's nowhere to be found.

I know as a kid it would be extremely enticing to take the money and honestly, if I was him I would. Because who doesn't like money? I'm just saying it wouldn't be the worst thing for his career if he came back and honed his game some.

Love your spirit, but that's not close to being right. If KCP leaves we'll be damn lucky to be in NIT contention.

frick that. you ****.

But seriously, Mann will be all SEC PG next year. Nemi will be better, Morris and Gaines will be improved. Like I said we may end up a 13 seed but we'll make the dance. book it.

The thing is we won't have a pure scorer like KCP. Mann is a very good PG already, but we won't have anybody on the team that is half the scorer KCP is. It took nemi half of this season to find his groove again, he stuggled mightily early. Morris looks promising, but our issue will be the same as it's been for years, lack of a post presence. We don't have a big man to attack the basket. Williams/Cannon/Dixon are ok I guess, but they aren't bangers. If we get a combined 12 points a game out of those 3 next year I'll be surprised. That's a lot of pressure to put on the rest of the guys on the floor. It wasn't too bad this year because KCP could go off at any minute and start lighting it up, but without him next year we are going to struggle big time.

You know Gaines can help fill that scoring role. He might not average 18-20 like KCP but if he gets 15 ppg that would help a lot. Plus, I think Mann is a good shooter, he could easily average 8-12 ppg, too. I may be off base, but I really think we're gonna have a good team. Losing KCP will hurt, but our defense will be strong and if those two guys, Mann and Gaines, can pick up the scoring slack we'll be golden.

I definitely think we would be, for a few reasons. For one, and this isn't a "real" reason, but based on the law of averages you HAVE to think we'd have a little better luck next year as it relates to ends of games. I mean there were like 7 or 8 games that we EASILY could've won but lost in the final minute.

As far as personnel, Brantley is on the team for the sole purpose of shooting 3s. That's it. I like Gaines's game much more, and next year he should thrive at the 2. Vincent Williams really impressed me this year, especially his improved shot. We'll miss him, but Mann is very capable and has proven he can score too. Frazier/Parker can provide a few breathers.

Morris looked promising and should only be better. Nemi righted his game and should be better. The only real issue is post play, but I mean that was our main weakness this year too. Florveus only played somewhat competently the last like 4 games so losing him won't hurt. Hopefully Donte will step us and Dixon can make strides from God awful to somewhere approaching average. We will still struggle in the post simply because we don't have a true scoring threat from the 5, but with KCP I think we can overcome it.
