FayettNam? Hope you're kidding.
Wilmington is very nice coastal town. Downtown area is cool if you can get close. Otherwise look towards Wrightsville or Carolina Beach. Best east coast town next to Charleston in my opinion.

Gastonia is also home to Limp Bizkit.
Wilmington is on the coast, the USS North Carolina is there. Nice town if you can't afford Cape Hatteras or the Outer Banks

Wilmington is a fun little town, to sum it up, it's like Charleston and Myrtle Beach had a kid together and named it Wilmington. It is a beach town with cool little party spots if that is your thing, if heavy partying is your thing drive 30 mins south to Myrtle Beach. It has a good bit of history tied into the revolutionary war and the civil war, if history is your thing. All in all, if laid back living is your thing with a good mix of city convenience and the laid back country life, then you will love Wilmington NC

I lived on Carolina Beach for two years. It was the last condo complex on the left before the beach that you can drive onto and campout on. Loads of rednecks and Marines from Lejeune. Carolina Beach is definitely cheaper than Wrightsville Beach and not as much to do at night. However, you're not allowed to drink on Wrightsville and you can on Carolina Beach. Also, at the end of the island is Fort Fisher with some really cool views and great fishing, with the ocean on one side and the Cape Fear on the other. Honestly, I didn't go out much because downtown was about 12 miles away. I had a great tan though as pretty much all I did was work and sit on the beach and drink beer. It's a cool place to live. There's good music in town and a cool little amphitheater, Greenfield Lake, near downtown. I think you'll like it.

Myrtle Beach would probably be pretty nice if it weren't infested with Yankees from Ohio and Pennsylvania so much.
