Well you better start praying Desmond Lee does not go to NC State, or that Yancy-Harris decides to head to Arkansas.

IMO our biggest problem is that we don't have a PG this year. Especially on a team without shooters or big men, you have to have someone who can create open looks, and we just don't have that. Having those two stud bigs next is great, but w/o someone to distribute it to them we'll still be subpar at best

Gonna be another rough one if we don't get a couple guys to step up and take over the PG spot and lead the team. Our guard play has been really bad, and the post players want to play guard.

We need Mickelson to stick in the program but he's got to produce. Madden could play at the next level if he could mentally commit to being a PG and running the offense efficiently and locking down some D.

Huh?

What do you define a "PG" as being?

Exactly?

The problem is the roster, I will agree, there isn't enough size down low or post players with size and low block skills, Powell has the skills but not the size, Mick the size but no basketball skills to speak of.

That puts pressure on the guards who are not good enough shooters out side to open up the inside for easy baskets by being outside threats.

The roster recruited by Pel is a mid-major roster filled with guys who doesn't have the mid-major skill set, they can't shoot...

If you are saying we need a "PG" like Fortson was that could drive the lane and create his own shots, that is as simple as playing zone to shut him down, he can still drive and kick it out and we find ourselves in the same problem we have now of piss poor 3 point shooters.

We could create points from defense, except most all these guys are piss poor defenders, BJ and Mickelson being the worst of the bunch. The reason why Gulley, Haydar and Wade play the minutes they do is because they are, sadly, the best defenders we have on the perimeter.

The incoming class this year has seen their minutes increase when they learned how to play defense.

we have had plenty of open shots, we just dont make them.

elite PGs are rare. its not like Florida has a true PG. they make it work with strong inside presence and guys who can knock down shots.

dales right. its a mid-major team without the solid fundamentals that make those teams effective.

as far as mick, not a fan, but i still think we should stick with him. if portis or moses miss any games, we're right back where we are now, with coty and harris (instead of powell) having to play on the blocks.

but i think the big problem is BJ, personality-wise. i dont know him, but he doent seem like the kind of guy id want to play with. his bad attitude has to bring down the team, and i guarantee that's messing with the confidence of guys like wade and the new guys.

Have you seen BJ play this year? Just awful.

As for a PG, there is another from Illinois(I think) we're pursuing. 6-2/6-3 range.

I understand the criticism of BJ for his play recently, but I think he's taking too much of the blame. A lot of the time he hasn't had much help. Wade, Scott, and Madden have all been useless offensively. Mickelson can't make layups. Powell usually has 4 fouls half way through the first half. This all leads to BJ having to force things.

It would be really good for Powell to stay another year. Next year he would be able to actually play a legit Small Forward position instead of having to guard the other team's PF constantly. If anything, his scoring would go up and our defense would be a hell of a lot better. He wouldn't get into as much foul trouble because he wouldn't be guarding guys 2-4 inches taller than him in the post anymore. He probably won't stay, but it would do wonders for his draft stock if he did. He's a Small Forward. On Next year's team he would actually get to play like one.

I define a PG as being the leader on the floor. The guy that works the ball inside out, doesn't panic and jack shitty threes at the end of every shot clock b/c we haven't run a play etc.

We don't have anyone on this team with those qualities

I don't think he is taking enough blame.

When he gets the ball, our offense stops. He looks around and he either tries to go 1-1, 1-2, or 1 on 3 and do his own thing. He has blinders on. He wants the spotlight.

I'll also take up for Wade all day long. He hasn't gotten the touches or shots he had last year. It was a few weeks back on the road and Wade hit two early threes. He shot the ball on e more the entire game. Bet your arse though, BJ Young jacked up his 3's and tried to go 1-3 that game.

I don't see how anyone can take up for young. It's pretty obvious our offense stops when he gets the ball.

Mike needs to consistently bring in better players at all positions. They need better shooting, better shooting at the freethrow line, better blocking out, better post play on both ends of the court, etc......

Because once or twice a year his 1 on 3 antics actually wins a game like against Mizzou at home and everyone is besides themselves like "would you look at that" and beat off in the corner over how great he is.

Meanwhile you can't count on two hands how many games this strategy of his costs us, the Bama game is a perfect example, down by three, dribble until no time left and drive in for a monster jam and look around like you did something...

Yea. I think the thought was spots would be easier to fill. The class deal with what's his face was unexpected. Kinda behind the 8 ball now a bit.

I'd like to see us go after the PG from Texas. Can't remember his name right now. He placed us third on his list without an offer.
