Schadenfreude at its finest

for sure. And I don't want to make this thread about them. I don't really care that much except to get a good laugh now and then, but this is fairly relevant to us

Amanti Foreman - Texas. I dunno though. I don't think any of his top teams are going to take his bro and I think that may give us a chance

The sips went ahead and offered 2* D' Onta Foreman today to get low 4* Amanti. Supposedly he ran well at their camp. Think that's it for us. Amanti is good but he's nowhere near 2 scholarship good. Be curious if OU blinks now though because their '14 recruiting is just as much in the shitter

In news more directly relevant, national top 100 DT Josh Frazier from Arkansas will be visiting tomorrow. I don't think he's ever visited before but we've made his final 5. He has family in Houston that he's been visiting so he's going to cruise through BCS on the way home (he basically lives in Fayettenam). Most think it's an Arky/Bama battle as of now

OT Zach Ledwik committed today.

He's sort of an interesting story as the sites don't rank him for shite. He went to the sips' camp 2 weeks ago and received an offer on the spot. Then he came to ours and also received an offer. Clearly an under the radar type. I know olinemen are always the hardest to rate but I'll be curious if he gets majorly upgraded by the services.

Who are our remaining targets? I don't see us signing more than 20 total players and we've already got:

QB - Allen
RB - Nixon
WR - Jeffery
TE - Martin
OL - Davis, Ledwik
DE - Johnson
DT - Washington
LB - Scott (if he can qualify), Walker
DB - Collins, Harvey, Sumner-Gardner, Watts

serious targets as of now (excluding people that right now I'd call long shots).

RB - Kevin Shorter
WR - Mark Andrews (AZ), Speedy Noil (LA)
OL - Bralen Smith (KS), Connor Mayes
DE - Myles Garrett, Qualen Cunningham (AZ), Gerald Willis (LA)
DT - Josh Frazier (AR)
LB - ???
DB - Jamal Adams, Tony Brown

We're in great shape on about half of those while others are a bit more iffy. From here we're probably looking at 2 WRs, 2 OL, 2 DEs, 1-2 LBs, 1 DB, and 1 K. And I do think we'll eventually take Shorter but it seems we have no intention of pushing for a commit any time soon. I'm not sure if we've given up the idea of a JUCO OT at this point either

Besides Gustafson, we have 1 more than can count back to the '13 class so we could add 26 this year. I think we'll come in just short of that with probably 23-25.

Once all of the newcomers arrive, we will have 81 scholarship players:

If you count the number of seniors (Malena, Walker, Matthews, Hicks, Klinke, Ennis, Jenkins, Askew, Franklin, Jacobs, and Hurd), that's only 11 we will lose to graduation:

80 - 11 = 69. (Edited with the retirement of Michael Richardson )

Redshirt Juniors that are not starters: Joeckel, L. Williams, Gramling, Robinson, Honeycutt.

Even if we lose all five, that still leaves us with 65 scholarship players.

In order to sign 23-25, we'd effectively need to lose every single redshirt junior not starting plus an additional 3-5 players.

we really wouldn't. In the last year, we've had an attrition of 10 that should be on the roster this year.

- Luke Joeckel - NFL
- Demontre Moore - NFL
- Jordan Richmond - Disciplinary
- Thomas Johnson - Personal
- Shavyion Hatten - Transfer
- Jameill Showers - Transfer
- Nate Gutekunst - Retired
- Hutson Priouleau - Retired
- Rontae Scales - Retired
- Kohl Stewart - MLB

Players leave for all kinds of reasons and you can never predict when and why. On top of that, prospects decommit or get dumped because they don't have the grades (Huggins, Griffin, or even a guy like Flowers). We haven't gone into a season with a full 85 scholarships in like 8 years because of this and a conservative nature about it. Sumlin lacks a conservative nature

I haven't heard that anyone is on the verge. Based on camps and the like, we're probably looking into July before the next commit honestly.

I suppose if anyone it would be Amanti Foreman but that's a long shot. We told him he has about a week to decide as we may be full at WR. So he's on the clock. It really makes little sense to me because I don't think any other WRs are particular close to committing but maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe we're just giving him a week to show he wants to be here or we're moving on to other targets. I do think Foreman likes us quite a bit but we're not offering his brother so I don't think this is going to work.

Mayes committed to Minnesota today. Wow

tbf, his older brother is starting there in the fall. I guess we're back to the drawing board at C. We didn't take one last year and we have none now and no targets that I'm aware of. I know Mike Matthews is only a Soph but ideally we'd like to have a guy next year to redshirt and then have a year as a backup before being thrown out there. They have very specific qualities they want in a center and have been exceptionally picky in offers so I guess they aren't that worried yet.

That's pretty interesting that he chose Minnesota. I'm looking but it doesn't show him with an offer from A&M.

You looking at Connor Mayes or his bro? We definitely offered him as a center. He has red hair and everything

The frick? Maybe it's not over....

quote:

“I really don’t know what he’ll (Armanti) do,” D’Onta said. “I talked to him about it and he’d really like to play with me, but he has a lot of options. He doesn’t want to choose right now. It’s kind of crazy, because he knows Texas is a wonderful fit for him. But he’s been saying, ‘I want to weigh my options. I want to take my visits.’ That’s mostly what it is, he wants to take his visits.”

“To me, I think it’s going to come down to Texas or Texas A&M for Armanti,” D’Onta said. “It would kind of surprise me if he went to another school. I honestly feel like he wants to go to Texas. I honestly feel that he’s eventually going to say, ‘Forget it, I want to play with you and we’re going to do this thing together."

“He wants to play at Texas, but he also wants to weigh his options. He’s stuck in between those two things and he’s really in a hard place. He told me he’s been thinking about it a lot. He really doesn’t know.”

I'm sorry but this would be the funniest recruitment ever if Armanti picks us after D'Onta got an offer from the sips. I doubt they'd honor it but wow what a spot that would put them in

It would look really shitty and be hilarious if they yanked his offer because his brother didn't follow him

I read that they told him the door was about to close on his brothers offer, kind of forced his hand. Sad that tu has to recruit that way to get a 4*
