Richt, Grantham, and Bobo met with the media today. Here are some of the highlights for those that may have missed it.
Richt:
Wants to see "sure" tackling from the safety position this spring.
Wants good competition during spring drills. "I want to see guys who want to win"
He feels that they will be able to create better depth on this defense than in 2012
Zander Ogletree is dealing with a medical issue and cannot play. No other comment.
Josh Harvey-Clemons will play multiple positions in the spring, most notably Safety and OLB.
He has a sneaking suspicion that some of the deregulation recruiting rules won't go into effect. No further comment on that either.
He may go to NY for the draft to be with Jarvis and Alec.
No plans for any position changes this spring.
Still plans to coach kickers and punters himself.
Grantham:
He says there are actually 8 or 9 guys returning that have started games on D.
Again, Josh Harvey-Clemons will play multiple positions this spring.
James Deloach is at 264 pounds but will play Sam Linebacker
Ramik Wilson is strictly at ILB this spring and fall.
CB Reggie Wilkerson came in a few months ago at 169 pounds but is currently at 181.
Ray Drew has been a "man" and really shown up during off season drills.
Bobo:
OL Mark Beard and Ausin Long deserve more playing time and will be competing for starting jobs.
FB Quayvon Hicks is the guy that you want to get off the bus first, A real beast.
RB Keith Marshall will be limited and will not practice until after Spring Break with a Hamstring issue.
JJ Green will get a look as a "scatback" type this spring.
They will be careful with Gurley and Marshall this spring with the depth issue lurking
OL will be LT Beard, LG Lee, C Andrews, RG Long, RT Gates as Burnette and Theus deal with injuries.

Both are listed as starters at RG and LT respectively for the spring. I think Bobo is trying to light a fire underneath them as well as let Burnette and Theus know that the spots are not going to wait on their injuries to heal.

With the depth concerns at RB, I was really hoping to hear this. Kid is an athlete that needs to be on the field somewhere.

I meant for the Fall.
At RG we already have Burnette and at LT we have Gates.
I'd really like if we could move Gates to LG but I'd hate to bench Dallas Lee.

I just think that for once Bobo is happy that we finally have line depth and he wants everyone to prepare as if they are the starter. The way Friend subs in and out during games anyway, I think who actually starts the games is inconsequential.

Me too; the O line should be really deep this year. Especially if guys like Xzavier Ward, Watts Dantzler, Greg Pyke, and Zach Debell can have good springs and be ready to contribute this fall.
I said it before in this thread, but I am really excited to see what JJ Green does this spring and where he lines up in the fall.

The kid is a football player. That is for sure.

What are the chances Houston gets cleared? And how much eligibility does he have left?

Houston and Ron Courson feel he still has a good chance to get cleared since he is really close to the threshold level mandated by the NCAA. They just have to keep testing weekly.

He is not eligible for a medical redshirt so he only has 2 years of eligibility left.

What does everyone think of this? I think he will be a good one for us during his career.

I dont know how to feel about the special teams issue. It will probally be more of the same. As far as the o-line goes I really hope to see a Beard/Ward rotation at the LT spot. Everything else sounded good.

Richt has said he wants to take a more active role with the Kickers and Punters. He has said he is going to go to a number of NFL special teams coaches this offseason to get some tips and coaching points. Hopefully it will help and Marshall Morgan can take the next step. His leg is STRONG.

I wouldn't mind that at LT either. According to most reports, Ward is make a lot of progress.

Good stuff man. I hope Richt does take a more active role with the kickers, but I also hope he lets someone,Wilson, take control of kick and punt coverage. I think by the time the season begins Ward will definitely be in the mix at either tackle spot. He's a diamond in the rough in my opinion.
