HIV / AIDS - do you know anyone who's had this disease?

I don't know a single person who's died from it or has has openly told anyone that they have it.
My father is the only person that I know who knows some that had AIDS. It was a guy that he went to high school with and everyone knew he was gay. He was a star athlete and played for the Bear. My father told me that Bear kicked him off the team after a year or so. The poor man contracted the Eazy-E version of the AIDS and not the Magic Johnson kind.
I miss the 90s and seeing a story every night about AIDS on the nightly national news. They made you think it was a pandemic.

A friend of mine died from it (he was gay). A friend of mine's father died of it long before I ever knew him (he was an IV drug user).
ETA: It's not a "nice" way to go, either.

Actual answer to this question, yeah.
The ADOC keeps inmates with AIDS at a certain facility and I have had to deal with some stuff out there. Sad shite really.

I've worked with kids who have had it. One was homeless and the other was born to two IV drug users.

didn't some judge in Alabama just order the stop of segregating prisoners with HIV?

Without giving away too much of my personal info, part of my job is asking medical questions. I have literally asked the question, "Have you, or any member of your immediate family been diagnosed with or tested positive for AIDS/HIV/ARC?" to tens of thousands of people, in 6 different states, over the last 10 years.
I have gotten a grand total of 1 yes in that time, and it turned out the individual had been misdiagnosed.

Yeah. Judge Thompson. I don't think the DOC has figured out what they are going to do after that ruling came down though...

83.8% of all statistics are made up, on the spot, to prove a point.
I'm like 79% sure

Yes.
In 2001, I actually watched a woman with AIDS take her last breath. It was a very sad moment, especially because she left behind a 5 year old boy.
You could smell death in the room for days before her death. The smell progressively strengthened as death neared.
She stared with hollow eyes at nothing and her breathing was labored and ratched. Nothing but skin draped over bones.
Terrible.
Her one request for me was that I draw her portrait while she was dying, which I did. A very private (and some would say "odd") request to chronicle the end, and yet somehow I found beauty not only in her request but also in her character.
