"Gotta Love Recruiting, Where Size, Speed, Outweigh Lousy Effort"

The article is about A'Shawn Robinson, from Fort Worth Arlington Heights High School.

quote:

No hustle, and very limited effort, and he also had the mope-around attitude, particularly on the sidelines

quote:

After the season, the all-district teams came out in this paper. I took a look, looking for the name of this kid. Again, one of the highest-ranked players in the nation was not defensive player of the year in his own district. Actually, he was not even first-team all-district.

I should have guessed. Galloway.

If Robinson stayed with t.u. this article never sees the light of day.

If you think it sounds like butthurt, well he is

Galloway is one of the biggest sports names in DFW. No editor will ever go against him, or that editor would be blackballed.

Good journalism. He should work for the ajc or one of the Scout boards. Seems very balanced and fair.

I just think it's shitty. Is Galloway always a tool like this?

FWIW, I loathe both Bama and Texas. I just don't think it's the job of the media to shite on HS kids. That's stooping to message board levels.

I thought it was a well written and well reasoned article. Just not appropriate to editorialize a kid in that manner. Maybe the kid will use it as motivation to change.

Agree. My point is that, given the heavy Texas bias that reporters in this state have, this article never appears if Robinson had remained a Texas commit.

The Process will take care of any motivation issues.

That's the only thing anyone is arguing about in this thread. This guy is obviously mad that one of the best players in the state of Texas left to play football in Alabama.

when I lived in the DFW area, I loved Galloway's radio show... never cared much for his writing, but he does a pretty good afternoon drive time show.

I don't really see much of a problem with the article... all of the top 100 type players are being judged from a thousand different angles... why is a negative opinion based on first-hand experience not acceptable?

I didn't take it that way. That seems like a defense mechanism that the internet has made too common. He watched the kid and talked to hs coaches and it seems the kid has earned his Randy Moss reputation.

I just thought it was strange that he didn't feel it appropriate to name the kid's name, but provided more than enough information to make it obvious who he was referring to.

It is certainly a gray area, but I think you treat high school kids much more delicately than college players and college players somewhat more delicately than NFL players. JMO.

I turn the station when Galloway comes on the air.

He is like the grandpa who is old and is getting slightly senile that' just says whatever the frick he wants to with no regards to anything. 1/2 the show are the other guys correcting him, 1/4 of it are them laughing at the dumb shite he says. And the other 1/4 are te commercials.

that's not his style, IMO... he's taken plenty shots at UT and the cowboys through the years.

Maybe it was due to him playing OT instead of DT his senior season.

Yes and the alcoholic somehow got the afternoon drive radio show on ESPN Dallas radio. It's like listening to nails on the chalkboard.

Biggest bandwagon fan I've listened to also.

I wonder if he did the same thing with Henry Melton back in the day. That was a kid that was lazy and got in trouble quite often but he is now one of the top NFL free agents this offseason.

And who is he really to question a coach that has now won four national titles in the last decade? I'm not a Bama fan in any regard, but when you have a track record like Saban does, it kind of gives him a LOT more credence over some drunken writer

Saban needs to hire this Randy Galloway guy and put him in charge of recruiting operations.
