Why can't Alabama attract an elite pass rusher?

Every year we sign great DTs and DEs, but we have yet to have a game changing force to rush the QB. Dareus was the last one to really make an impact, and even then he was spotty.

Yeah, it might help our defense get to the next level.

Jonathan Allen probably qualifies.

Not sure if serious....

Take a Look at last years LB class and throw Jonathan Allen and Reuben foster in the mix

You'll get one from Virginia next year.

biggest flop of this years class...dude is all about himself and has no brain. Classic washout. Congrats on Kamara. He will be the next big thing at Bama

You sure are being ungracious. And after he apologized to you via tweet. Shame on you.

Oh, and sour grapes.

I disagree, has the best instincts of any LB this class. Only way he flops is if he flops in school.

Under Saban I would say Gillberry,Anders, and upshaw were our best pass rushers, but our D is not about sacking QB, our D is about stopping the run and effecting the qb thru our scheme, not sacking him. With all the dual threats you have to push the middle of the pocket and pass rushers have to stay in lanes. If we have to sack him we will bring five, with a db off the slot....

You don't need an elite pass rusher in college. It doesn't hurt but top defenses often lack this element - see Bama for example.

It's different in the NFL. NFL QBs can pick you apart in seconds if you don't pressure them or put the Lawrence Taylor fear of God in their head. That's why every pro team covets a classic speed rusher off the edge.

College QBs are mostly stupid, selfish, inaccurate, etc compared to their NFL counterparts. Throw a blitz at them or disguise your coverages and they will screw up on their own. College QBs tend to be more mobile as well. Flush them out and they are likely to pick up a first down with their legs.

Agreed.

Bama hasn't had one, but won back to back natty's.

South Carolina definitely has one, back to back 3rd in the East.

It's nice to have a DE who can get after the QB, leaves your linebackers open to create other mischief, but it's not necessary.

It's also why Clowney probably won't win the Heisman. Although I think he probably is the best player in CFB, he's a defensive end.

Defensive ends don't win championships. Quarterbacks and running backs do, totality of the team, really.

SC fans are going to go apeshit, it's what they do, but what I speak is the truth. Go ahead and throw in "he sacked Murray 43 times!" if it makes you feel better for being 3rd in the East with the best player in college football.

I disagree. Guys like JFF can give us fits because we don't have one. If we had an elite pass rusher we def we be a shoe in for 3 in a row.
