Well if Robert Foster comes in and lights it up like Coop, then I don't give a shite what Shinn does.

Black plays a completely different position and Shinn was in the rotation well before Bell got hurt. White got hurt and Shinn was next guy into the rotation.

He's already playing a lot.

He's playing as the 4th receiver after Chris Black, DeAndrew White, and Kenny Bell all got injured. I like Shinn and think he would be a great role player for us (like this year), but he's not going to play over the guys listed above when they are healthy next year. He also isn't going to play above Cooper, Norwood, or Jones (Chris or Cyrus) next year.

If he's transferring, it is a smart move. If he's staying, then it is about more than football to him. That makes me think he's leaving. I wish him much success and thank him for his time at Bama.

No, no link. Just rumors from a drug band message board.

Let's not act like Shinn was a game changer against Notre Dame. He caught 2 passes for 14 yards and dropped another after getting hit. For the year he had a mere 42 receiving yards and those yards probably wouldn't have been possible if not for the injuries at the WR position.

I'm not saying he was a top receiver for us or losing him would be huge hit to the team. I'm saying that he has 3 years of eligibility left and could be a starter in '14 after Bell and Norwood are gone.

No one is saying that but the kid was trusted enough to play snaps in that game. One of those catches was for a key 1st down too. Kid has talent...would hate for him to leave before its fully tapped. He could be a player in his Jr or Sr yr for Bama

Over who? He was behind Black and White when they got hurt, and he was also behind Christion Jones. I guess one or two of them could transfer, but barring injuries he is never going to be a major contributor.

Black and Jones play the slot. Completely different position than the one that Shinn plays. After Norwood and Bell graduate, it'll be White, Shinn, and new guys competing for the outside WR spot opposite Coop. I like White a lot but it's not like he's a proven commodity either.

will you admit he was playing because of the injuries to 2,5, and 7. He is behind all of them not to mention 83 and 22..He moved up in the two deep because of the injuries. I am not taking sides between you and Trey but he made the most of his opportunity and realizes he is 3rd string when all come back healthy.

and I forgot coop

People love to say who is playing over who and who is better than who. It has nothing to do with athletic ability. Its knowing the playbook. If being athletic gets you on the field L. Collins would be starting.

Again, he does not play the same position as Black. Black's injury had absolutely no effect on his PT. He was playing in the rotation well before Bell got injured in the Iron Bowl. White's injury definitely put him on the field more.

A poster on TideSports is a coach at Vigor HS. He said that the Bama coaches planned on playing Shinn quite a bit this year before any of the injuries. I believe the plan was to get him some PT this year - assuming he continues to develop - and prepare him to have a bigger role in the offense in the future.

Kinda sucks because I was hoping he would continue to show improvement, and also because Norwood and Bell just have 1 more season left.

Coop is likely gone after 2, so Marvin could realistically continue to climb the chart. However, he could see that his opportunity to be a true starter may be at least 3 years from now.

After seeing where or WR recruiting is likely headed, it could be a tough decision for a guy in Shinn's spot to decide whether to stay or go...

whether he stays or not, attrition is going to have to happen. we need to make room for 5-7 if we bring in 25. If it is going to happen then happening at a position where Bama is deep is no big deal to me. We are deep at WR, and soon to be deep in RB if we sign 3-4 this year

Agreed, but I can name 5 or 6 players who will have their degrees and have much less chance of playing next year than Shinn.
