Had a discussion with an Auburn fan that said Bama was always getting rid of Shula after 06 no matter what happened and even if Saban wasn't coming. They wanted Rich Rod.

I always thought the loss to Mississippi State is what started the ball rolling on getting rid of Shula.

Anyway, my question is, if Shula doesn't get "Croomed" by MSU, would Bama have even been looking to make a HC change, or was that already in the works?

Just looked back, and after finishing 10-2 in 2005, Shula would have been 7-3 in 2006 if he beats MSU. Only losses in 2OT at a great Arkansas team, respectable loss at National Champ Florida, and 3 point loss at a good Tennessee team.

Even if they still lost the next two to great LSU and Auburn teams, Bama is 7-5, with a possibility at the Peach or Liberty Bowl instead of the Independence.

Just curious if the mood in Tuscaloosa was already that a change was imminent, or if the MSU game was what really started the movement.

TIA

even if they beat MSU, the Auburn game would have done him in. They were tired of losing

Why was that?

Results? Personality conflict with administration? Textbook scandal?

I think everyone knew that Shula was temporary from the beginning. No idea who they wanted as a replacement but that's what I always thought.

Hard to remember exactly, but a lot of people were NEVER impressed with Shula from the moment he was hired. There were very few people that thought Shula would ever have Alabama more than middle of the pack in the SEC. I think enough people who make decisions had realized that during the 2006 season with or without the MSU loss. Even in 2005 people thought 10-2 was fool's gold.

I think he was gone even at 7-5.

I knew Shula was in over his head after the loss to Arkansas.

If they beat MSU, is the mood different, and they possibly beat Auburn? It was a 7 point loss. Would a win against MSU and Auburn have saved him?

Just don't really remember the timeline.

When was Rich Rod supposedly a done deal? And when was Saban's infamous "not going to be the coach at Alabama" speech?

Was the season still going on, or was that all after the Auburn loss?

He was gone. Everybody knew he couldn't get the job done. He did a good job guiding us through NCAA sanctions from the Dubose era and was there for us when we needed to hire a coach right before fall camp due to the Mike Price fiasco. All that said, he was done after 2006 and the MSU game just sealed any chance he had of staying.

He may have gotten another year. He definitely had some support to keep him around even after the AU loss. I remember it pretty well and with another win or 2 in 2006, especially not losing to MSU, and I think he would have been back in 2007.

Tubbervilles fingers were the cause of Shula's firing. His thumb got it started and his index finger on his left hand sealed the deal.

Plain and simple.

Shula sucked real bad. Saban said after the TN game that he could make the team a winner and that's when he actually started the "process", Rich Rod was coming, then Finebaum and his laughing hyena made fun of how hot his wife was, she got scared of rednecks and Rod backed off which opened the door again for Saban to split and get the gig.

Ironic what Cam says about Shula. He is a good position coach.

Oh, and Shula completely ignored anyone who covered him at Alabama for a couple of years after he left, he wouldn't even acknowledge them.

But hey, what the frick do I know, apparently I just make this shite up.

Bama was going on crippling probation and Fran left in the middle of the night. Then the Mike Price fiasco. Shula was all Bama could get to keep the football team going until the sanctions were over.

I hated how it ended because Shula was a Bama boy, but there is a reason that no other team has hired him as a head coach.

Interesting.

Didn't realize that. Thought that yall were pretty excited about him being an alum and his NFL pedigree, although he didn't seem to have much success at Tampa and his Dad kind of bailed him out with a job.

Guess no HC or recruiting experience wasn't a big thrill for yall either.

There's a reason Charles Barkley saying the day Shula got fired was the second worst day of his life
