I don't think you actually meant to reply to me tbh, I don't give a shite about Top 10%. I was homeschooled so I had a whole 'nother set of criteria to deal with trying to get in.

I'm not that concerned either. Going through a hypercompetitive school where the top 10% was cutthroat, and people complained about not getting in was just he nature of the beast. Worst case scenario you go to Blinn/UTD for a semester or a year and transfer, or you don't go to A&M. A&M allows for tons of kids to get in that aren't top 10%. It is just the way it is.

Don't worry. We can't take them all. We'll take the best and brightest and leave Arkansas what's left. Like we do football recruits.

Why does A&M fall so far behind Texas with regards to applications? Doesn't A&M have a larger enrollment than Texas? Seems odd Texas has so many more applicants than A&M and accepts less.

Going to be hard to pass Texas in the academic world with those numbers.

This.

Myself and my little brother (class of '14) were blessed enough to get in right off the bat as freshmen. My little sister is going the Blinn route.

And I don't blame her at all--actually would probably have gone that route myself if I could do it over again and save some $$$.

Actually Texas had 35k applications last year to 29k for A&M. If their number stayed the same A&M will pass them. The difference between the schools in terms of applications and qualifications have been close for quite a while, very few kids who can get into A&M could not get into Texas, we are talking well under 5%. After this year it may be completely moot.

I bet 36,000 of those applications were men and women who look like men

Our school has more girls than guys.

And for the record, everyone who has ever gone to A&M could have gone to LSU if they wanted. If you got into A&M, you could have gotten into LSU easily. But we chose to go to a decent school. So just keep that in mind when you think about A&M.

You do realize that A&M is a much better school than Arkansas right?

I assumed you were right about this but it looks like LSU's minimum test score requirements are slightly higher than Texas A&M. A kid with a composite ACT of 21 could get into A&M but not LSU. I found that funny.

I'm content with going to the school that's more highly recruited than all but one. See Wall Street Journal.

I'm also content with going to a school who degrees pay more than any other SEC school not named Vandy.

But if you're content with something less, to each his own.

So it's safe to assume that you're gay, right ?

I am not sure about the minimum grades to get in as compared to elsewhere, but kids that get into A&M arnt making the minimum scores.

For what its worth I almost went to mizzou, great journalism school.

LSU Rank 134

A&M's Rank 65

Arky was tied with LSU at 134

Actually, the current minimum LSU ACT score for admission is 22.

Never understood trying to make your institution look better by degrading another. Very weak IMHO.

I don't know how many applications Texas received this past year. I didn't see anything on their website about it.

Texas has a special exemption from the top 10% law discussed in this post. They only have to take the top 8%.

A&M is larger than Texas in terms of total enrollment. But we've got some plans to expand beyond what we already have.

Just this week the College of Engineering announced plans to get to 25K students by 2025.

Also the vet college is building a new $120 million facility (with an expanded small animal hospital) to be opened by 2016 (the 100th anniversary of it being a separate college from agriculture). Having had cats most of my life (see my sig) this is the announcement I like the most.

Yes, that is why I said someone could get into A&M with a 21 but not LSU.

Texas usually gets well over 50k applications every year.
