I noticed Malzahn and Lashlee are pretty active on Twitter. Malzahn even used it to announce what was going on with Biasccia at one point. Jay Tate had an article up about it earlier today. Just wondering what yalls opinion on this was. Good or Bad?

I like it. Getting info straight from Malzahn was refreshing after the last staff was on complete info lockdown.

I like it. Horton tweets a lot as well. They only use it for positive media and really pump the university up and such. It can be a great tool if used correctly.. but a nightmare if used terribly (see Bielema as a prime example).

The way Chizik ran this program was a sham. Ridiculous amount of coachspeak during interviews. Not letting not only fans but media members WHO COVER YOUR FREAKIN' TEAM watch any practice. Not issuing stats after scrimmages.

You would've sworn the Auburn football complex was the Pentagon. And outside of 2010, none of it did any good.

Hopefully, Malzahn is more cordial and more open to letting folks what's going in inside the football program.

In terms of off-the-field stuff (run-ins with the law notwithstanding), this is probably the one thing I'm most excited about being gone.

I honestly don't even know why Chizik bothered to give press conferences and interviews.

Yep I hated that so much about his tenure. I totally wanted to bitch slap him when he came through Tiger Walk. Frick that bothered me.

I love twitter and use it all the time. Once you learn who to follow and what to ignore, it's really a great source of information.

I can see the assistants on Twitter, but Gus?

Or most any head coach?

I think they probably have Twitter aides.

I hope I'm wrong and it's really Gus. That would be fricking awesome.

You dont actually think they are tweeting anything that has not been AU approved, do you?

Necessary evil for football coaches, imo.

Absolutely agree with this.

This too. Although I wouldn't call it a necessary evil. Follow Hugh Freeze and James Franklin - these guys use it all the time. Like it or not, recruits are all over social media and seeing a coach use it can be a great way for players to feel connected.

I would hope my coach is smart enough that he doesn't have to get approval. What do you expect him to tweet that wouldn't be AU approved?

AU is a billion dollar company...no info goes out without some type of approval.

Its not a knock on Gus but there is protocol.

I like that Gus is personable enough to use it, as long as it's done responsibly. Nothing I have seen from Gus over the years makes me think he'd ever lower himself to this, but as long as he doesn't get into twitter battles like that ogre arky hired, I have no problem with it at all.

I don't use twitter (though I have an account). Too much useless jibber jabber to sort through.

I like twitter fine though as worthwhile relevant tweets get picked up and reposted on message boards, on websites, in the news etc. So, just my preference is I'll let someone else sift through tweets and I'll see it somewhere if it is one that interests me. Course I am not much for facebook either as I don't care about jibber jabber and what everyone is up to.

I like Gus using twitter. Straight from the horse's mouth, relevant, no second guessing the source, etc. I think that is great and a refreshing change. Also think it helps Gus connect more with us Aubies which he needs to do at this point in his AU tenure as HC.

I feel a heck of a lot better about the coaches on twitter than the players on twitter. Gus is smart enough not to say anything he does not want the world to read on twitter.

Keep twitter away from the wife please.

The AU athletic dept compliance office does follow all student athletes and coaches but they do not filter any tweets before they are tweeted. If something is inappropriate they will get the student athlete or coach to delete it but that's about as far as they go with it.
