I agree with that. The time between year one and two is usually when you'll see the most improvement.

Until we show some kind of competency on offense, you should probably go ahead and omit us from any top 3 offensive rankings . Hill being the 3rd best RB in the SEC is probably the only one I could see being argued right now

Murray, Gurley, Marshall are definitely in the top three.

They're my #1.

I'm interested in seeing what happens in our own though with George and Sanders (both quality backs), Clemons returning, and running the spread. Both Sanders and George have good hands as well and are pretty shifty.

Total Backfield
1) Bama
2) UGA
3) A&M

QB:
1) A&M
2) Bama
3) UGA

Top RB:
1) Bama/UGA
3) A&M

Second RB:
1) UGA
2) Bama
3) A&M

This gives Bama and UGA a total score of 5 each (taking the ranking and adding them up). It gives them an average score of 1.66 each. I give the tie-breaker to Bama due to QB. I don't care what kind of #s Murray puts up. I'd rather have the guy with the better record against top 10 and top 25 competition.

Just my two cents.

Brandon Williams had to sit last year. So did Carson. Trey Williams looked electric as a true freshman. Georgia has an incredible backfield, but so does A&M. In my opinion, those two are 1A and 1B.

I just find it hard to say that "backfield A" is better than "backfield B" based off of players that haven't even seen the field yet.

O.K. -- instead of talking about how great we all think our backfield could be -- when second stringers get more touches, freshmen become seasoned veterans, etc., etc. -- why don't we just look at the numbers?

Who brings back the most rushing yards next year? Wouldn't the argument start there? Then we should look at OL, etc.

A&M led the SEC in rushing ypg (and yards/attempt) -- and returns all but about 450 yards of that production. Still A&M returns an entire starting backfield that gained over 200 ypg -- with the next nearest being UGA at about 180 ypg. Lost a top 2 pick left tackle (LJ), but replace him with a first-team all-SEC tackle (Matthews).

So put A&M anywhere but #1, and you're looking at "potential," Te'o-esque feel good stories, urban legends, whatever -- you're not looking at the data.

Or you're looking at B6 SEC games from last year, where Bama and LSU were the only teams to rush for 200 in any game, LSU 2x, Bama once.

aTm was third in rushing of the 4 teams primarily being discussed here in games against the other elites of the conference. The difference between the top and bottom of the conference was so great in 2012 that those are the only relevant games IMO.

"Did you gain 200 yards against 2 (maybe 3) specific teams in your conference?" That certainly seems like a sound statistic.

It takes 13-14 games to make a season. On the basis of the '12 season (and what everyone else is returning) my assessment still stands -- 200 yard rushing game against 'Bama or not.

If DG chooses AU over Michigan that would make.

1. Tre Mason 1000 yard rusher
2. Cam Artis-Payne #1 Juco RB
3. Derrik Green #1 RB by some sites.

You could put, in their primes, Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson, and Jim Brown in our backfield and our QB situation would still have us in the bottom third of the SEC.

Murray is 0-3 against the Gamecocks, will be 0-4 after this coming season ... so pardon some of us for not bowing to Murray's yearly greatness. And while I do believe Gurley and Marshall are very good - they were held to what, 50 yds combined against SC this past year? So color me not impressed.

I'll rate SC's returning backfield over Georgia's and will, once again, be proven right in the head-to-head face-off this coming September.

Bama with McCarron and whoever Saban decides to plug in back there - yeah, doesn't matter, Bama will have studs running the football so they have to be in the top 3.

A&M ... I'm already suffering from JFF fatigue but he's good. Not sure if he will survive the dreaded Sophomore Slump in the SEC or not, because every DC in the league is going to be gunning for him - but until someone else shuts him down he deserves the respect and he has a decent back behind him.

Here's the thing though.

There will be no slouch backfields in the SEC this year. All of them are talented, all of them can hurt you on any given Saturday and all of them will bring it until you shut them down and demoralize them.

My point is DLIne > O-backfield.

Backfields are just not that important. What is important is that OLine and how it matches-up against the SEC Dlines.

So will Bama have another great OLine this coming season? Will A&M? I'm not going to ask about UGA because I already know the answer to that question. And I know that SC is going to have probably their best OLine since the late 70s early 80s heyday years that produced the NFLers under Jim Carlen ... the lines George Rogers ran behind.

Gurley also had 9 100-yard games outside of the Carolina game, including against Florida and Bama.

UGA was playing 14 points behind, 8 minutes into the game, therefore not many carries. Credit to Shaw, Latty, Clowney, but shouldn't take away from Gurshall.

Fair enough Dawgs ... props where props are due. Gurshall combined with Murray is a dream backfield. Now, if you've got the OLine and WR corp to go with them, and I understand a lot of you think you do, then your offense should be as formidable and dynamic as any in the country ... even though it may not show because of the defenses you'll be facing and the schedule you'll be playing.
