I would absolutely not like this. Generally, anything OT related can be talked about on the OT, MSB, or any other board that is fitting. Creating an SEC Rant, OT sub-board just seems like it's going to create an even further split between the SECR and the rest of tigerdroppings. The IM thread at night seems to get plenty of action anyway. I mean what would be next, an SECR movie/TV forum? A food/drink forum under the SECR? I think that the team specific forums are plenty enough of a split off from the main SECR.
I'm just rambling and I know my opinion isn't worth diddly squat, but I think that things are just fine and dandy how they are now, with a board for any topic anyone would want to post.

First of all...thanks for the Board.
FWIW an OT UGA board would be OK but I really don't see the problem. There are rarely non-sports posts on here and when there are everyone has a choice on what to read. It's not like the Board is covered up with recipes, investment tips and pron.
Let's face it...football season is over so I don't think diluting the posters to other boards makes alot of sense. That'll just slow everything down and one of the draws is content that is always being added and/or changed.
Just my thoughts....

That's the idea, which is why I'm all for it.
In my humble opinion, the SEC Rant will continue to be the little brother forum to Tigerdroppings until it gets it's own Off Topic Board.
The SEC Rant has a unique community separate from tigerdroppings and wouldn't have a problem supporting it's own Off Topic Lounge.
Again, just my opinion.

Who knows, if the poster community could support it, I'd be all for it.
Think of it as Chicken opening up a new style of restaurant to increase revenue. In the beginning, the menu is limited but as the clientele and support increase, the operation will need to expand and grow just like the original successful restaurant did.
At least that's kinda the way I see it.
The SEC Rant doesn't "NEED" an OT board, but I think the forum community is large enough to support it and it would be beneficial to the SECRANT.COM product as a whole.
Therefore, the SEC Rant "SHOULD" have an Off Topic area.
Again this is just my opinion.

I'm sure it could support it, but support isn't the issue. It's just useless to have 2 OT boards under the Tigerdroppings name, all in the name of having a board just for "our" people. Can you imagine how often a topic will be posted on the SECROT only to have someone say "this same topic is on the OT". Do we have to then have an OT forum for each individual team page, just for the fans of those schools to have their own OT board? The OT is just that..off topic. There's no need to have a TD OT board and an SECR OT board, IMO. I simply don't see a need for it. If someone wants to start a thread about hot girls or what happened to them at work or what they're doing this weekend or a news article..that's what the OT is for.
ETA: Also, I feel like it's only a very small minority of folks who really want to put a wedge between the SECR and TD. The majority of UGA posters on this board are from the dawgrant, so they all want their little group to stay together. I've noticed that only a handful of the new posters have actually warmed up to and enjoyed all the other boards TD has. I can't speak for all the other posters on the SECR, but it seems like the only reason they may want an SECROT is because they haven't really embraced the other boards.
I don't know if it's because I've just been here a while, but I regularly read/post on the SECR, OT, MSB, and M/TV board with no problems and am perfectly happy.

The admins could manage this if it got out of hand but believe it or not, many of the topics on the TD OT already come from other places on the internet, so it's not that big of a deal.

I agree it's not "NEEDED" if SECRANT.COM is to remain just a branch of Tigerdroppings.com.
That's fine, I'm perfectly happy with the current setup as well.

The LSU and older posters probably have the largest camp of people wanting to see a split which may have something to do with it actually splitting.

I don't think this is the case.
The tigerdroppings OT is the most posted and probably most trafficed forum on tigerdroppings.
If an SECRANT.COM OT was created, how much of a drop off would we see on the TD OT's traffic and posts?
I would speculate not that much and probably a lot more growth in an SECRant's OT lounge.
My point is, you're not really hurting anything by trying it out and if it doesn't work, Chicken can retract it.
You don't have to worry, Mr. Chicken likely won't do it unless there is strong support and I'm not leading any crusade for it.
However, posters here seem to have trouble embracing change because of uncertainty, even if it's a no-brainer for the better.

Actually, now that I think about it. I know of wish the recruiting threads would have stayed on the original recruiting page. Without the flame fest, it was a good way to get information about recruits from other fanbases.

Honestly maybe we could just have an ot sticky on the board. There really aren't too many topics here that are completely off topic and it would let people converse without threads being anchored/whacked. And if local Atlanta sports threads were allowed on the board I think it would be good. We don't want to discuss the falcons on the msb because we are hugely outnumbered by saints

Not sure why Chicken reaching out to acknowledge the overwhelming success and power OF THE GEORGIA BOARD.........has turned into a debate on whether the goons of the SECrant should get an "SECrant OT".

-Chicken did not post a sticky like this one on any other team boards! Only the GEORGIA board.
-The Georgia board has more activity than all the other team boards combined (minus LSU maybe).
-Some of the other team boards for VERY popular teams have a grand total of 4 pages total. While the Georgia board is probably in the hundreds and only a few months old.
I could go on. But, the facts all point in one direction.........which is that the Georgia board has carved out it's own highly successful nitch in a small corner of the TD-SECrant universe.
So.....................
If Chicken wants to harness the power, might, and success of the GEORGIA board without neutering it, I only see two possible directions moving forward..........................
1) Either let the Georgia fans and the handful of elite misfits from other teams we allow to join us to continue to talk about what we want to talk TO EACH OTHER about. Or..........
2) Create a sub-board (Other Side) within the Georgia board for the off-topic, non-Georgia sports stuff.
Any other solution will just shoot the board in the foot and drive off those who make this thing tick, imo.

More sports board and political talk are fine replacements for what the DR had(although I think game threads for local teams should be allowed here.) The OT is just overwhelming for our board because most posters don't frequent it(I check it maybe once a day), and a thread about anything local would be off the front page in 10 mins.
Meanwhile the OT has a 25 page thread going about a lost dog in the BR area.
