if we "stole" a&m. as if colleges don't have the freedom to move conferences. it doens't seem like any other lawsuit threats are being thrown out there with all of the other movements like maryland, et al.
it's like "how dare you leave texas boy". looks like he showed his arse. just sayin'

BayLOL folks make Arky fans seem like intelligent, well-adjusted human beings.

All this conference realignment is getting on my nerves, and I am a fan of one of realignment's biggest winners(TCU).
At this point I am ready for the NCAA to step in and just align the conferences Texas high school style, 10 conferences of 12 teams that get redrawn every 2 years or so.

He was just looking out for Baylor.
At the time, UTa was in talks in with Pac-12.
It very well could've been:
UTa, TTU, OSU, OU to the Pac-12
A&M, Mizzou to the SEC
Maybe the B1G would've picked up KU/KSU but everyone else would've just been fricked.
People forget this was a serious possibility (even likely) at the time until talks broke down.

It was a pretty pathetic attempt considering most conferences actively have gone after schools but in this case A&M and the SEC were very careful to cover their tracks and have Loftin make the official call. The lawsuit had no chance, it was all bluster.
Baylol has a ton of lawyers though, that's what they do. It also brings up a very interesting point for Texas going forward. They are effectively stuck with 3 Texas schools now, none of which are attractive to the big conferences. Maybe someone would take Tech if they got Texas in the deal but no way do they take 4. A&M dumping the "kids" with the sips was one of the best parts of the divorce. It's their problem now.
Oh, and Ken Starr is a whiny little bitch.

Yep
Baylors of the Big12 would of been toast, possibly looking at Conference USA. ISU would of either been a Big10 get, or another of the Conference USA additions.

I'm not saying it was a ridiculous whiny pointless gesture. It was.
But this was different. This was the only time in recent memory where one school leaving appeared to be the domino that would've destroyed the conference, leaving Baylor hanging out to dry.

they saw the end was near for them. they never would have been invited into the big 12 had it not been for ann richards and now that they dont have a BU alum as governor, they knew they couldnt get into a big boy conference. so they did everything they could to keep a&m and mizzou from leaving and starting the chain of events of the big 12 collapsing

pretty sure it was because AM was breaking a contract

Exactly. That's the reason Baylor was more upset than anyone.

No they were threatening to sue both a&m and the SEC. With the SEC they were claiming they lured a&m from the big 12 to the SEC, which would have been illegal.

I'm not trying to be a former conference foe malcontent; but in all seriousness, Baylor is a joke. The only way they've managed to achieve anything is by strong-arming other schools in the state to indirectly champion their cause. The reason you don't see threats from other schools is because they're not pathetic in the way that Baylor University is. It's tough to blame them--they're a fraud of a program in a state with other schools like Texas A&M, University of Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, SMU, Rice, UH ... hell, even Texas State, UT-San Antonio, Sam Houston, SFA, and UT-Pan Am give them competition.
They're an embarrassment to The Great State.

I read somewhere that if the PAC-16 deal had gone down (or even if Utah takes A&M's spot with A&M to the SEC), then the Big East would have invited Mizzou, Iowa State, Kansas, and K-State. In other words, the rest of the Big 12 not named Baylor.

The only "contract" A&M broke was in Baylor's mind.

Starr did what he had to do. I don't like the guy but I understand the desperation. BU was close to having to ask for an invite to Conference USA.
I differ with my A&M brethren about Baylor being an embarrassment. Good school. In sports: Heisman trophy, football program is legit (though they really need a LOT more defense - ironically DC Phil Bennett is an A&M guy from my time), the men are respectable in basketball and last year's 40-0 women's team wasn't bad :-), and they occasionally come up with a good baseball team. Nothing embarrassing about them... well... other than the whole Tarp of Shame thing. That is embarrassing.

A&M wasn't breaking a contract. A&M had one relevant contract with the Big 12 that was signing off on the original charter. That contract had a clause for leaving and A&M exercised that clause.
The irony is that if Baylol had somehow succeeded in bungling A&M leaving for the SEC by it's threats of a lawsuit then A&M would actually have had cause to sue the crap out of Baylor.
It was all crap though. Baylor would never have tried that move without Dodds support. The sips did everything they could politically to stop the move as they truly feared what might happen if A&M left. At some point it became inevitable and they switched to the aloof "we don't care about you" attitude only to now have their worst fears realized times 100. It's absolute panic in Austin. They don't know what the hell to do but they are all mad. Some are still in denial. Some are bracing for another decade of the abyss like we gave them in the '80s and '90s.
The crazy thing is the Big 12 could absolutely take advantage of the current situation in realignment and become a strong and viable conference, they would just have to work together. They could easily go into the ACC and poach all the quality schools that sit in SEC and Big 1G states. Think of the Big 12 as a 16 team league adding FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State, Pitt, and believe it or not they could then probably get Notre Dame. VTech would be a backup as would Boston College. They are also the only conference that would be potentially interested in offering a Duke/NC combo package and might take NC State if they had to.
The problem is that conference has absolutely no leadership or sense of unity. Every school is in it for themselves and doesn't care about the conference. It is the only major conference that never puts the conference logo on uniforms for instance.

I've never seen a more delusional fan base than baylors. Go look at their board, I've literally read that they could take down any SEC team and that their defense is on par with the SEC defense, just that the numbers don't look like it because the Big 12 has better offenses.
