Scoring offense and defense analysis (Championship game)

Alabama averages 38.46 points per game and allows 10.69 points per game.
Against their opponents, they averaged 11.70 more than their opponents allowed and allowed 18.55 less than their opponents scored per game.
Notre Dame averages 26.75 points per game and allows 10.33 points per game.
Against their opponents, they averaged 3.48 more than their opponents allowed and allowed 17.51 less than their opponents scored per game.
Using those numbers:
Alabama scores between 21 and 22 points.
Notre Dame scores between 8 and 14 points.
The difference is the ineptitude of the Irish offense here.

I hope if this was 2009 to 2011 defense this game would be laughable but we are not close to as good on defense as years past. I hope they struggle due to not playing on this stage before but who knows.

Notre Dame has only scored 30 or more points four times.
Only one of those teams (Navy) was in the top 40 in scoring defense.

I don't like these kinds of comparisons because they have played different teams, and those teams have played different teams.

They had one common opponent, Michigan. ND squeaked by the Wolverines, 13-6. Bama wore hem out 41-14.
