Per hokenanson, Malzahn has placed the emphasis on hiring new coordinators first, and then any assistants that wanted to stay, would interview with the new coordinators hired.
If CGM told the coaches he is letting the new oc/dc choose their staff why then was rocker offered a job without a dc??

Probably just had his info wrong or that he was offered the DC job

I don't think anyone said he was offered

Ok, either way. You get my point

The rumor was that Rocker was offered the DC job so I imagine that in itself sort of answers your question. I believe that rumor to be false. The next DC may consider Rocker as a D-Line coach but I'm unsure that Rocker really wants to come back

I suspect Rocker is waiting to see who the D coordinator is going to be. Also, Gus is going to "help" the coordinators pick their coaches I'm sure.

If he want to come back to CFB I dont know why Rocker wouldnt want to come back people have this huge hardon for him and treat him like a god. He is a bit overrated to be honest.
That unless he wants to stay in NFL

He left on a high note - might not want to retread old ground.
