I think he would have to be up there, unless Richt wins the SEC Championship game, then it's probably a toss up.

I don't think Sumlin gets it - recent history teaches us that having a great player doesn't equal being a great coach - i.e. Chiz. That hurts him in my opinion. Sumlin may be outstanding, but we'll have to wait and see.

Franklin, Boom, Freeze and Sumlin would all win it in a normal year. All did fantastic jobs this season.

James Franklin. Vandy hasn't won 8 games in a season since 1982. They haven't had a 9 win season since 1915, which they can do this year if they win their bowl. And when is the last time they've been to bowls back to back? Ever?

I'm a homer but you can't deny his ability to coach up his team to overcome adversity during the game and win.

Gotta be Sumlin with Muschamp a close 2nd

New coach in a new conference with a new coordinator and a new qb.

They have NEVER been to back to back bowls. That right there should seal it for Franklin.

Franklin or Sumlin get my vote.

But what if Bama wins the NC again with all the players that went NFL last year? How can you say he doesn't deserve it? Staying king of the hill is not easy.

My approach is to consider actual performance vs realistic expectations (based largely on how the previous season concluded). With that, my 1st place vote would go to Freeze. The improvement and competitiveness of OM this year vs last has been nothing less than startling.

Boom would be a close 2nd.

Gene Chizik. His ability to win zero conference games ids quite the accomplishment.

Obviously I'm a homer and think Muschamp should win it, especially because no one expected us to win more than eight this year. However, the job Franklin has done the past two seasons, and especially this season at Vandy, is downright phenomenal. I don't see him lasting another season at Vanderbilt...one of the bigger programs will snatch him up.

Richt is not in the discussion because they were expected to win the east especially with their schedule. And although winning the championship game would be incredible for UGA, I just dont see the Coach of the Year race being dependent on one game.
