"There was a lot of chatter last night among agents and coaches generally in the know. A lot of people think something big is coming at Auburn and Tennessee... We shall see." posted by Ron Sanders

Another poster asked him about Malzahn and he said he thinks we go for a bigger name.

Easiest way to tell people you know nothing about football is to want Gus Malzahn as our HC

People are obviously entitled to their opinions, but we wouldn't be any better than mediocre under Malzahn. His teams won't every play top-notch defense, and we'd have to outscore everyone to win. That wouldn't work. Not in this league.

If were to settle for Malzahn, I'd be highly pissed.

The thing that concerns me about Malzahn is: Can he develop a QB? He did work with Frazier a good bit and how has that turned out? He did select Pike and how did that turn out?

isn't Sumlin similar to Malzahn in terms of offense? They just beat Bama and hung 63 on us at home.

Sumlin is air-raid offense. Gus is a run first. I think Sumlin may have just modified it since JM is such a mobile QB. I may be wrong, but I don't remember Keenum being extremely mobile.

The thing about Malzahn and Sumlin's offense is, if you're going up against great defenses, you have to have an incredible QB. Cam was incredible. Manziel has been incredible so far. You've got to have a guy with balls the size of his helmet, is absolutely fearless and truly believes that he's better than everyone else on the field.

From what I've seen, the playcalling is different. Gus seems to get fixated on a handful of plays and get stubborn by calling them over and over again. Was watching the Arky St.-ULM game last week and saw where Malzahn ran that same draw play with Oku about 5-6 times in a three-drive span, which is fine if it's working in the Sun Belt. But that kind of predictability won't cut it in the SEC. Malzahn did the same thing here where we'd get a first down and he would automatically call for a run up the midde. Every time.

I didn't see A&M run the same play very often against Bama. They ran the zone read a handful of times, which is a staple of that offense, but the Aggies' offensive gameplan kept Bama on its heels the entire game.

Maybe that's nitpicking, and it's not completely fair to Gus to blame him for our bland playcalling at times since Chizik was holding him back. But I'd have to see a Malzahn team without Cam Newton actually do something against good SEC defenses before I buy into him. He may be great in the SEC. He may not. But hiring him would be a risk I don't think we can afford to take right now.
