Go to a 9 game reg season and scrap the championship game to allow for a higher chance for 2 SEC teams in the playoffs? I know it would be controversial but why would the SEC okay a game that would eliminate a team from the ultimate prize? Especially when not every conference has a championship game. Thoughts?
Im a dumbass, STFU you stupid gump, diaf,

It would help get more teams into the playoff, but we need the championship game. It is the winner of the SEC. That is still important.

My knee jerk is to say "no". I would have to assume the money made off the championship game is more than the money made off a second team in the BCSCG, but, that is just my assumption.
The answer to your question will lie in the $$.

No - too many teams now not to have divisions.

You could lose the SEC championship game and still make it into the playoffs imo.

It's been very rare that the SECCG has hurt the SEC in the NC race. More often than not it has helped.
I love the SECCG and would not want to give it up.

That seems like a good idea right now since the SEC always has 2 teams near the top of the rankings. But things will change eventually and when they do we may need the top team from the SEC to play in and win the SECCG in order to make it into the playoffs.

In the past I agree that it has helped, but it hasn't helped a team lower than 4 or so anyways. The worry I have is something like a 1 loss LSU/bama playing a 1 loss Florida/SC/UGA and the loser being knocked out of the top 4.
I still think it needs to be played, but there are pro's and con's to both sides.

I think this is a legit question. I think one of the things that keeps the SEC head and shoulders above the other conferences is the shear out and out competition within the conference. Every weekend is a physical battle.
The SECCG is almost BCS Championship game 1B. I think that with the 4 team format it will be hard to keep a team out of the playoff if they have 1 loss season and that loss is only to another team in the SEC Championship game. Unless it is just a blow out game.

I believe per NCAA rules any conference over 12 teams must have a championship.

No. You must have 12 teams or more to have a championship, but you're not required to have one.

No, we should not scrap it. Arky needs the banners to decorate their shithole stadium.

I love the SECCG but he's right, it will hurt us over the long haul. With the current state of the SEC any undefeated SEC team is getting into the playoff, by having the top 2 from each division face off, it's difficult to take a team that finished the year with a loss as a top 4 team. How often has a team in the top 4 lost and stayed as a top 4? That's a very rare occurance, and it's difficult to take a 1 loss UF over a 2 loss UGA when the 2nd loss was to Bama in the SECG, much easier to just scrap them both and set up a more regional playoff and let in the 1 loss Big 12 champ...

It's not going to matter. It's going to be done by committee, so there will be bias in the selections at some point.

Not a bad idea. Does the BCS plan to stipulate that you have to be a conference champion to be in the playoffs?
ETA: what happens if a team from the East and a team from the West are both undefeated? How do we declare an SEC champion without the Championship Game? Or will that not even matter anymore?

The BCS 4 team play0ff does not stipulate you have to be a conference champion, it does take that in consideration. However, the point is not all teams would have to win the extra game a conference championship game requires.
It would suck if both Bama/LSU and UF/UGA were undefeated and the loser got left out of the 4 team play-off by say a 11-1 K-State/OSU/OU/Etc. or 10-2 Notre Damn.
How about this: 11-1 Bama, 11-1 LSU, 11-1UGA, and 11-1 UF at the end of the Reg Season. No other teams in the other conferences are undefeated, say most have 2 losses. An all SEC 4 team Play-off?

You are absolutely correct. In essence, the SEC championship game will be considered an extenuation of the playoff system. It would be next to impossible for the loser of that game, so late in the season, to be cast back into a 4-team playoff with the team that just beat them...it won't happen!
