Read in the USA Today, you guys were hurt by the out of conference schedule of ULM, The Citadel and Louisiana Tech.

If those teams were as good back in 2004 as they are this season, would it have been enough to push you over the top and into the national championship game?

I don't think that was a huge factor. They were just unlucky that USC and OU were ranked a lot higher than them to start the year and those teams were undefeated.

Don't think so. The media got who they wanted to play in that game. That's what Au gets for screwing up in 03.

I know I am going to come off as a 'Bama homer but there is no scenario out there, barring a USC or an Oklahoma loss, that would have allowed Auburn to pass one of those two in the BCS standings.

was a lame reason since Auburn beat a lot of top heavy teams compared to USC and Oklahoma that year.

No team was playing other than OU/SC that year

Same thing with 05, no team was getting into the national title game other than Texas/SC

Actually, yeah I believe it would have been enough. Bowling Green dropped us and we had to replace them with the Citadel at the last minute. I am pretty sure I have read if that had not happened, just having BG instead of the Citadel would have pushed us ahead of OU and into the title game in the BCS rankings.

I think the fact that USC shut them out at home in 2003 and beat them the year before in 2002 hurt them more than anything.

Auburn hurts LSU's SOS more than Townson.

The SEC wasn't as good in 2004, only 4 SEC teams finished in the top 25.
Only 5 SEC teams won more than 6 games.
3rd place in the SEC West was 6-6.

It was karma for trying to frick over TT the previous years, just like Auburn is and will keep suffering from karma for buying their NC in 2010.

That certainly didn't help, but I think the fact that AU and USC had played a home-and-home in 2002 & 2003 and AU lost both (neither particularly close) had an impact as well. I think there was some in the voting group that thought "we've seen these two teams each of the past two years, so why should we jump undefeated OU and see it again".

Just my two cents on it.

Nope. A sixth grade JFF didn't like AU...he has the sway.

Do what?

USC scored with 1:30 left for the winning score. How is that not close?

Exactly....

And who did they drop us to play? Why, none other than Oklahoma.
