Gene Chizik won an NC his 2nd year as head coach?

Gene Chizik and Jimbo both have similar accomplishments as coordinators and Chizik has a NC as a head coach. Jimbo won't win a NC in his third year especially dropping games to teams like NC State. Will he win it his fourth year when his conference expands to 14 teams, probably not. The last time Florida State was in the ACC Championship was 2005

If you guys won't to win the press conference and get a flash hire just know that we'll be having this same discussion four years from now when that coach also fails to meet expectations. I would prefer either a coach like Patterson with a proven record of success or someone like Franklin/Gundy with a don't give a frick attitude that will fight for the school and back down to no one. A Saban clone is not the answer, ask Tennessee how it's working out for them with Dooley & Sunseri

Most of your big points, so to speak, are speculative at best. Jimbo is no more of a "Flash hire" than Mike Gundy or Patterson as you mentioned below so you can go ahead and throw out your line about winning the "press conference".

On top of all of it, you're trying to equate fricking Derek Dooley, one of the most underwhelming hires in football history, as a "Saban clone" in the same paragraph that you're talking about "flash hires".

You're just chasing your own tail at this point. Just fricking stop I am embarrassed for you.

Stop ruining Jimbo. And if you are going to do it, do a better job

The name of the thread is, "Unofficial Auburn Coaching Search/Pipe Dream/Crazy Speculation Thread" so maybe my mistake was making logical points in a speculation thread. . . My bad. I'll back away and allow you all to have your fantasies

Yes, but please, advertise them as such. Stating your opinion doesn't make it fact. Just because you believe that Jimbo Fisher is less likely to win in the ACC after meaningless teams are added doesn't make it a logical point. It makes it the opinion you've derived from god knows where.

You can't honestly say that your flashy hire/press conference win bullshite was logical when the two coaches you mentioned as alternatives are just as flashy and just as likely to gain media attention.

Then, to wrap up your absurd paragraph about flashy hires with Derek Dooley and the Saban mold made your whole post a true tragedy.

You pursued wanting to know why people thought Jimbo would be a good hire so you can't honestly be hurt to find yourself in a position to adequately explain why he wouldn't be

That said, I'll pitch in that Jimbo wouldn't be my first choice but we could do far, far worse.

I hope you come back

Not true undecided. FSU played VA Tech in the ACC Championship in 2010. Fail.

It was also the first year Jimbo took over as HC.

This endless speculation is pointless. Until a change is made at the top and a serious house cleaning takes place in the athletic dept, nothing is going to change. The problems at AU are rooted much deeper than Gene Chizik. This image of "family" within the athletic dept is a joke. AU athletics is a hundred million dollar a year industry, not a family "mom and pop" operation. Unfortunately it feels like it's being run like one.

I have no problem with agreeing to disagree. Many of the popular candidates are just not that appealing to me. I'm more interested in someone who can provide a complete change of culture internally and externally than plugging in the hot pick. I used Franklin and Gundy as examples for their personality moreso than their coaching ability.

Nevertheless, we all want the same thing at the end of the day and which is a successful athletic department and we may just have differing opinions on how this can be achieved. No harm no foul in discussion

Knowing Jay Jacobs, we'd probably go out and get John L. Smith.

Then slap a $15 million buyout on him.

A lot of people that are connected with administrators and BOT members seem to think Jay Jacobs is out as AD sometime this year.

With that said, still probably wouldn't be surprised with John L. Smith with a 20 mil$ buyout before Jay leaves

After that game I say somebody needs to go and park the Banks truck on Gary Patterson, Pete Carroll, Charlie Strong, or hell anybody's lawn that knows more about SEC football than Chiz
