Unfair comparison.

Their fans have neither tv's nor computers.

First we took something that was posted on ESPN…. a list that combined TV viewing in areas all across the country, revenue generated, and attendance. We then combined this with the amount of online traffic to the various forums and messege boards online; a very good indicator of a fan base.

The results were surprising. Some teams you’d never expect have massive online followings; Rutgers, South Carolina, Iowa. Others might surprise you with how little traffic there is; LSU and Virginia Tech Come to mind.

I wonder why?

This list is a load of crap. No way does Rutgers and Iowa a bigger fan base than LSU and Georgia. And doubtful that Auburn and South Carolina does either. And while I detest Notre Dame, I can't believe they aren't number one or at least in the top five.

Um shouldn't they be in the Top 10 considering the size of the state, number of alumni, endowment, etc.

Our state is split amongst the school, unlike Louisiana, which almost universally seems to pull for LSU. We were a small military college til the 70s, so our alumni size is smaller than you'd think. We're at 300,000 or so? but it's growing quickly now that we have about 50K on campus these days - but it wasn't always this way. Endowment doesn't really play into this.

We have no fans outside of alumni.

That's the number I was going by. That's a lot of damn students each year.

Which schools in Texas are the most popular/best to attend. I always thought aTm was up there with Texas and Baylor. Don't know much about Texas Tech, SMU, TCU, etc. I've heard about people wanting to go to Baylor, UT, and aTm.

If Notre Dame and Penn State arent top 10, this list is bull shite. BAMA at #2 sounds about right but some of the rankings have me stratching my head...

Popular and best are way different.

Texas and A&M fit both. Baylor is small so it is hard to say that it is popular. TCU, SMU, and Rice are very small, but good schools. Texas State has around 35,000 students, so you could say that it is really popular, but I wouldn't lump it in with the best. Tech also has a little over 30k. The University of Houston is large, with around 40k, but it isn't popular as it is more of a commuter college.
