The SEC not taking it easy on players?

I looked and I don't think this is Germans. Sorry if it is. Before I post it the article just want to say, I don't really care for pointing fingers at any team or conference, (though I REALLY hate the B1G) but this just kinda struck me as something to share because I do like pointing fingers at Meyer because I've NEVER cared for the guy and always thought he was a little slimy. Sorry, if that pisses off some UF fans. Anyways here we go. And let's hear your thoughts.

Unfortunately for SEC fans (and college football fans as whole), it seems like the country’s top playmakers continue to get struck down by the allure of marijuana. Whether it’s Isaiah Crowell, Tyrann Mathieu or the latest, Da’Rick Rogers, substance abuse is killing the careers of many of the SEC’s top playmakers. Perhaps the top playmaker in the country, Clemson’s Sammy Watkins, also finds himself suspended to start the year due to breaking substance abuse policy.

Back in early July, senior Buckeye linebacker Storm Klein was arrested for “violently and purposefully” grabbing his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child and throwing her into a door in his apartment. Urban Meyer swiftly dismissed Klein from the team as Klein violated “the core values of the Ohio State football program.”
Recently, the victim recanted her story, and Klein pled guilty to a lesser misdemeanor charge. Urban then reinstated Klein – though he’ll miss the first two games of the season.

More exposure = more SEC players making headlines for doing what every program experiences.

That's the Corch we all know and loath.

If we legalize weed our recruiting will be so titties.

strict policies equates to losing.
Calipari is the master of this at basketball, Urban is apparently great at it too.
Joey Dorsey, Jeremy Hunt, Shawne Williams would have been kicked out of school 12 times over if their coach had been anyone but Calipari.
Same can be said for Urban and Harvin.

A lot of buckeye fans want Klein gone; I was of the boat that he's a senior who has played hard for years. I think Urban is scum kind of myself.
The SEC guys have had multiple chances and failed...not saying it's better or worse than the violence charges, but they had chances in the plural

I don't think that's what the article is referring to. I think it's pointing out the hypocrisy of the people that point at the SEC and say it's nothing but a 'win at all costs' menatality, while they're the ones that are actually being as lax as they can on punishment, while we're jettisoning our top playmakers.

Urban is a piece of trash and there is a huge double standard in the media when it comes to Ohio State. This isn't really news.

Weed charges are actually better than assault charges.

You're right - I just live in Big Ten country and I'm so used to this silly perception that I don't notice it sometimes. No matter what happens at any of the top programs, they will always think their universities "do it the right way" and the SEC is just a group of cheating, ignorant football factories.
Not even the Penn State horror has changed this view. I still hear constantly from tOSU friends (whose team is on probation) and Michigan friends (whose team is on probation) how all of us in the SEC are out of control.

I was more saying substance abuse is maybe equal to a domestic fight.
I really don't know the details of the Klein thing honestly since it didn't interest me, but I didn't care one way or another if he played again

Weed charges are dumb.
Meyer is a huge hipocrite and assclown regardless.
Random trivia:
Who was the first coach in SEC history to call for and institute mandatory drug testing of his players?

It's fricking bullshite the way these Universities own these players like indentured servants.
Oh we'll give you a scholarship and housing if you come play ball for us and help generate millions of dollars for the school, but you can forget about experiencing the genuine traditional college experience.
We fricking own your arse.

I don't know the answer to this, but I'm definitely interested in finding out.

So you're saying that the education and housing that each athletic department pays for shouldn't come with stipulations that players refrain from breaking the law?

Yep. 1982 and yeah, unfortunately he had the results in his pants pocket when he lost them.
And I don't know if you actually knew this or were just trying to be funny.

Pretty smart business model. There's a troubling issue underscoring this problem in college sports, but it's far too sensitive for people to rationally discuss and borders on taboo.

I'm not saying that.
I'm saying they should be held to the same standards as every other student enrolled at the school.
I don't remember being required to take a piss test every two weeks to stay in school.
ETA: and I was on scholarship.
