IMO one of the great "nicknames" in all of sports. Where did this originate? Major props to one of the best... The Ol' Ball Coach

It's ok to acknowledge success bro
Just because UGA is the most under performing SEC team of the past 15 years (based on hype) doesn't mean you have to be a Negative Nancy

Hoyt said Auburn will go undefeated this season...he makes bold predictions to go along with the 2nd worst thread you've ever seen.

Incorrect. I said Auburn stands a solid chance, in my opinion, to be undefeated heading INTO the Iron Bowl.

Has nothing to do with this shitty thread.

Florida fans may have a better answer, but I have read that FL media essentially tagged Spurrier with the moniker, based on the way he talks and describes the game of football....
the media would try to portray Spurrier as some genius or guru years-advanced in the coaching of the game, but he would poo-poo such notions, and talk about drawing up "ball plays" at the "ball park", and how he likes his QBs to "throw a pretty ball". His terminology often sounds like an old-time football coach from the 50s, 40s, and earlier....

Spurrier dubbed himself the "head ball coach." Someone misquoted him as saying "ol' ball coach" and the name stuck. Spurrier still refers to himself as the head ball coach and I've seen him wearing headsets with masking tape on them with the initials HBC written in magic marker.

Went to the UF camp while in early high school and it was pretty damn entertaining being around the OBC on the field and in qb meetings.
He def references "throwing a pretty ball" "Nice Ball" "Hit'em in tha mouth withat ball" - all kinds of lil quips that only he could make noteworthy. Dude was always moving around, crossing arms, uncrossing arms, hands on hips, off hips, visor on/off, etc. One fidgity guy. He is such a smartass too
Swear I thought he was gonna make some kid cry one day.
