Sorry. Actually most people that I've talked to( lived in 4 diff states and have travelled to 37 diff states) hate Bama.
That makes it a nationally recognized brand. That's not to say it's nationally loved.

P.S. I've traveled to 38 states and have lived in 5.

No but in college sports generally the douche fans never attended while the actual alums are good people. This is amplified in the case of Alabama for some reason.

Actual Bama alums,

Wait...So we can't be Bama fans if we didn't graduate from there? This is the dumbest shite I've heard on the board thus far...Thanks. I've been a Bama fan my entire life, I'm now 27..guess I should go graduate real quick so I can become a non-sidewalk fan..

Everyone obviously wants to associate themselves with a winner. Much like those erudite folk I see on Swamp People, which I'm sure is an accurate cross-section of the Louisiana populace, and LSU graduates in general.

You may either agree with me of make an admission of your dunbassedness.

Your call...

Not real sure how going or not going to a University has any affect on whether or not someone should cheer for that school's sports teams. My parents met at UA and were married shortly after obtaining their degrees. My grandfather graduated from UA and now sponsers a scholarship there. An aunt on my father's side and an uncle on my mother's side both went to UA. I have 2 degrees from schools not based in Tuscaloosa. I was accepted there, but decided to take another route. How does that make me any different from someone who got a degree at UA? I did my partying somewhere with a better program for the degree I was seeking? Big deal.

I didn't say they should or shouldn't do anything. I said:

#1- More often than not, the shitty fans you run into are people who didn't even go to the school they cheer for. That's a generality based on my extensive experience traveling around this country and this conference.

#2- While this is something I've seen everywhere and I'm sure is true at LSU as well, for some reason at Alabama it's more extreme. The good Bama fans are the best I've ever been around, and most of the time they are alums. The bad Bama fans are by far the worst fans I've ever seen and they seem to be heavily made up of non-alums

I really can't imagine a situation where a team experiencing recent success doesn't gain a boatload of bandwagoners. If that comes with it, then so be it. I don't mind new fans that didn't attend UA or those 'sidewalkers' who stick with the team through bad times. It's those whose loyalty sways in the breeze that really get my goober.

I'd like to see how these awesome SEC atmospheres would be like if all the sidewalkers disappeared. It'd be easier for me to get a tailgate spot on the quad, that's for damn sure. But it wouldn't be the same.

I don't understand why people use things like this to make themselves feel superior to others.

To each his own.

You are the type of Bama fan everyone hates. Entitled, ignorant about other teams, Bama's backups could start for the Superbowl winning team and I would have bet my life that you never stepped foot on campus except to go to a game.

Perhaps generational? Older fans, of all clubs, seems to be more honorable, and to stick with a team through thick and then.

Hard to measure, maybe by sports sales specific to a University. Was there a big hibernation period after 11/5/11, reawakened after 1/9/12? I would imagine. I'm pretty confident if Blogosphere was in full bloom during the 90's LSU land would have been fairly deserted. I say this based on the preoccupation with a bowl game. If anyone suffered a decade when the club basically became Wyoming, CFB wise, one game would not have brought out the venom.
