Ive seen him play twice and while he is pretty athletic, I don't think hes quite that athletic. Definitely more skilled though. The kid had an unstoppable floater both times I saw him. Hes pretty crafty and while I don't think he is as athletic as Hillman he will certainly posterize some people in college. He had this one dunk on a 6'7" dude and he didn't overpower him, but he jumped right into him and somehow changed direction after the bump and slipped his body around him and finished the dunk. Definitely the craftiest HS dunk I have ever seen.

I hope we can go ahead and get these kids to commit. I assume we have closed the books on 2013.

I've liked what I've read about him thus far. Can he shoot?

@Rob_Harrington: I admire how much Shannon Hale has improved his game. He will be a quality face up forward for #alabama

He shot well from what I saw, but he didn't shoot but maybe 3 or 4 3s in the two games I saw (hitting 2 if I remember correctly). Can't blame him much for that, because noone could stop him from getting to the basket. ESPN says he can shoot from outside pretty well. They said he should work on his PG skills if he wants to play some at the collegiate level there (didn't look like a PG at all when I watched him). They also said his midrange game needs some work (don't remember him shooting a midrange at all those 2 games) and that he gambles too much on steals (he succeeded with most those when I watched him).

All I know is that Grant needs to start signing full classes regardless of the type of player he wants at a position. Walk ons getting signifigant minutes isnt whats up.

Would love to get CJ Turman. Looks like a beast. Dont know why he is rated so low. We need to get on him before the summer time.

I started to cringe when I saw that, but I like the "Outstanding" next to his shooting category on Rivals.

ESPN's scouting report on Severe.

quote:

An attacking young swingman with plenty of talent, Severe shows some early signs of upside and potential. He gets to the rim north to south as well as east to west with a quick first step and good economy of motion. He runs hard in transition, has dexterity putting the ball on the floor and finishing, and actually prefers to drive left. Severe is also a capable shot maker off the catch or the dribble with terrific shot preparation for a youngster. We like his frame as well as he boasts a naturally strong core with long arms.

Also says he doesn't have many flaw, but consistency is his biggest problem.

I have no problems offering a guy who has a lot of things to work on as long as shooting isn't one of them.

It sounds like he has been a bit of a late bloomer. Lots of programs are coming after him now. Hopefully we can get him down for a visit.

Yea he must be having a helluva senior year because he is just now getting high-major looks. I started watching a couple of his games, one AAU and one HS game last year, and I was a little unimpressed. He must be strictly a standstill shooter, because he hit 2 of the 3 threes I saw him take off the pass, but the two shots he tried to create got him nowhere and one was 2 feet left and 2 feet short of the rim while the one from the AAU game got thrown back in his face. He also looked pretty bad defensively in the AAU game, considering just about every one of the opposing guard highlights were him getting blown by or him giving the guy WAY too much room. The one thing I liked was he could finish through contact. He's got several games (not highlights) from his junior year on youtube that I'll probably watch more of tomorrow, but tbh so far I'm not liking what I'm seeing.

Also, do any of you "old-timers" ever remember getting a kid from NY? As far as I know, that might be a first if we landed him.

@NYPost_Brazille: Christ the King shooting guard Jon Severe has changed his mind and decided he's not ready to pick a school yet, he tells me.

@NewEraURI_Hoops: Per @TheRecruitScoop Jon Severe is mainly considering St. Bonaventure, Duquesne and Alabama with Florida State and Virginia Tech involved.

If we can't beat St. Bonaventure and Duquesne for a kid then we need to just pack it in and quit.

St Bonaventure is right in his back yard and Duquesne is in PA and not far away either. They also have PT to offer. I don't think we will land him, and not sure if I'd want him from what I've seen unless he is the BFF of some future NY stud.

Hope we get this guy but there were other guys we couldve took if we were looking for shooters. Like the white Kid from FLA. We need to get some legit basketball players. What I mean is guys who have a high Basketball IQ.
