This thread needs at least one post every day. There's gotta be some news.

10th best coaching job, not program. I don't agree with it, but given our recent state recruiting crops being pretty bad and having to sell Bama as a bball school, its certainly one of the hardest programs to turn around.

Jamychal measured out at 6'9 (6'8 without shoes), 217 at the combine. I know he's not a real big guy but I thought he weighed more than that (225 or so). I'm basically just bumping this thread

Bama is a fave for Canadian star:
quote:
With the signing of Devonta Pollard, Anthony Grant continues to put the University of Alabama on the map in recruiting, and he's after another ESPN 100 prospect in 2013, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, a combo guard who's considered one of the best 3-point shooters in the class. The Canada native already has more than 30 scholarship offers from some of the top programs in the country, but he likes the Crimson Tide because of their style of play and the coaching staff. "I just like the way they play, their up-and-down style, a lot of ball screens and stuff like that," Rathan-Mayes said. "I'm trying to develop a good relationship with Coach (John) Brannen and the coaching staff down there. It's definitely looking like a positive.
The rest is at ESPN (paid subscription). That nation is really producing some major talent.

Pretty good set of offers. Hopefully we can get him down for a visit.

That's really the key thing. Just getting him and Barber to come visit gives us a good shot. Without a visit, you have about a 2% chance at them.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes would give us players from 5 different countries on the team.

So hmm. Its going to be interesting to see how many we take and at what positions. Hmm and Barber would be the best class hear ever possibly.

Well we will at least take 4 with a chance of taking 5 if these high rated prospects want to come here. I wouldn't mind taking a guy for every position.

ESPNs scouting report: Strengths: A super skilled, young guard, Rathan-Mayes has a great shooting stroke from behind the arc as well as off the dribble and a good understanding of how to create space in the mid-range area. He's still growing into his body, and so isn't yet explosive, but nonetheless is still proficient at creating his own shot. Weaknesses: He must improve his overall decision making and feel for the game as he has a tendency to monopolize the ball and hunt shots. He doesn't make anyone around him better at the moment and doesn't yet understand how to run a team from the point guard position. Bottom Line: Improved discipline and consistent effort on both ends of the ball would also help this youngster to maximize his tremendous potential. Sounds a little like Lacey coming out of HS. Barber and Martin remain my favorite targets, but this kid is really good as well.

I was just about to type that. Looking at his film he is exactly what Lacey is. A guy who just knows how to play the game but doesnt have a lot of athleticism.

Looks like Bama has offered Damien Jones. He's a 6'9 center out of BR, Louisiana. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WplHAqMU_RE
