I'll start with LSU...

1995: LSU 20, South Carolina 20

In the third quarter, facing fourth and goal from about the 2, we went for the TD but got stopped. Then, in the final minute of the game, trailing 20-13, we scored a TD, but kicked for the tie instead of going for two. If DiNardo was going to go the conservative route, why didn't we just kick the FG on 4th and goal earlier?

1987: LSU 13, Ohio State 13

In the final minute of the game, tied 13-13 with the ball inside the Ohio State 10, head coach Mike Archer and offensive coordinator Ed Zaunbrecher for some reason thought it would be a good idea to throw to the end zone. Ohio State intercepted, returned it to midfield, and we had to block a long FG attempt on the final play just to preserve the tie. In postgame interviews, Archer's comments defending the play call suggested our coaching staff didn't know what the score was. He said "I will never go for a tie" (which proved a lie in 1989 against Florida), apparently not realizing it was already tied and a FG would win it.

1985: LSU 14, Alabama 14

Trailing 7-0 in the final seconds of the first half, Ronnie Lewis missed a 25-yard FG that would have put us on the board. In the second half, we scored twice to go up 14-7, but Alabama converted a 4th and 20 in the final minute on the way to scoring the tying TD (Alabama kicked for the tie instead of going for the win). LSU then drove back inside the Alabama 10 in the final seconds, but Ronnie Lewis missed AGAIN from 25 yards with 1 second left. LSU, Alabama and Tennessee entered the day tied for 1st place in the SEC. The tie knocked both LSU and Bama out and gave Tennessee the SEC championship.

1972: LSU 3, Florida 3

I listened to this one on the radio. LSU missed 7 of 8 field goal attempts in a game we dominated physically. One more FG would have given Charley Mac his only 10-win season and a second SEC championship.

These all frustrated me, but the Gators can trump any of them with the Choke at Doak, I guess.

1947 Cotton Bowl - The "Ice Bowl"

LSU 0 - Arkansas 0

The 1947 Cotton Bowl Classic was played as an end to the 1946 college football season for both teams, and was the first matchup between the rivals since 1936. The game was named the "Ice Bowl" due to the ice, sleet, snow, rain, and sub-20 degree (Fahrenheit) weather which produced horrid playing conditions. The Tigers only accepted the invitation after considering themselves snubbed by the Sugar Bowl, and entered the game with a record of 9-1.[5]

During the time period in which the game was played, the bowl game was still considered an accomplishment due to the tickets that were sold out weeks in advance and the attendance of the game, which was around 38,000 despite the weather. It is argued that LSU had the upper-hand most of the game in terms of offensive production, holding a 15-1 edge over the Razorbacks in first downs and a 271-54 advantage in total yardage, led by quarterback Y.A. Tittle. The Arkansas defense kept the Tiger offense out of the end zone from the Arkansas 1, 6, 7, and 8 yard lines, but Arkansas could not capitalize on any of the stops. The final two plays proved the cold did not stop the teams from having a flair for the dramatic, as Razorback Clyde Scott (a future College Football Hall of Famer) tackled LSU receiver Jeff Odom at the Razorback one, preserving the tie. The Tigers then attempted the go-ahead field goal, but a bad snap ended the game on the final play. Due in large part to the weather, the game ended in a 0-0 tie, marking the second (and last) time the two teams tied.[6]

I wish we could bring back the tie... Helped with tie-breakers for the conference, etc...
I HATE the tie-breaker rule..
It was TRADITION to have ties and we are all for tradition...

Ties help break a tie.

In 1994, a Georgia team that had lost to Vanderbilt and had been blown out 52-14 by Florida, ended Auburn and former coach Terry Bowden's 20-game winning streak with a 23-23 tie at Jordan-Hare... The Sunday morning headline in nearby Columbus, Ga read "UGA beats Auburn 23-23".

Best non tie... UGA scores as time expires to tie AU... but....

In 1996, the two teams played in the first Southeastern Conference football game to go into overtime. First-year head coach Jim Donnan's team, which finished 5-6, was down 28-7 at halftime, before rallying to tie it at 28-28 on a 30 yard touchdown as time expired from Mike Bobo to Cory Allen, and Georgia went on to win 56-49 in four overtimes. This game, known to Georgia fans as the "Miracle on the Plains," was also famous for the incident in which Uga V lunged at Auburn wide receiver Robert Baker after a first quarter touchdown.

At halftime of the '96 game the auburn fan behind me said, "this game reminds me of the game a couple years ago where we tied".

I'm still mad at him...

'96 Auburn-UGA was the first overtime I had ever seen.

yup he was talkin' about the '94 game AU (ranked #3) was up 23 - 9 at the half, Eric Zeier threw 2 TD's to tie it at 23, then the AU kicker Hawkins missed a FG with 13 seconds left...

Probably the tie to SMU in 1994. Kept us from having a perfect season (such as Auburn's 1993 season).

1966- Notre Dame 10, Michigan State 10

My favorite tie as a UGA fan was when winless GT (finished 0-10-1) tied undefeated & #1 Notre Dame (finished 9-2-1) 3-3 the same day as Belue to Scott happened in Jacksonville in 1980...

I was at the 1985 Bama-LSU tie game.

After Lewis missed the final field goal, Perkins had Shula take a knee instead of at least trying a hail mary or going down the field.

NOBODY left that game happy. I learned some new cursewords that night. :-)
