What reason should USC be unanimously number 1 ahead of the 2 best sec teams that played in the title game?
With this schedule of kittens and puppies, it is an easy pick for #1
Sept. 1 -- Hawaii (6-7)
Sept. 8 -- Syracuse @ E. Rutherford, N.J. (5-7)
Sept. 15 -- at Stanford (11-2)
Sept. 22 -- California (7-6)
Oct. 4 (Th.) -- at Utah (8-5)
Oct. 13 -- at Washington (7-6)
Oct. 20 -- Colorado (3-10)
Oct. 27 -- at Arizona (4-8)
Nov. 3 -- Oregon (12-2)
Nov. 10 -- Arizona State (6-7)
Nov. 17 -- at UCLA (6-8)
Nov. 24 -- Notre Dame (8-5)

11/3/12 may have the two biggest games of the year.

Figured ESPN wouldve learned not to rank a non-SEC team as #1

If they didn't, what would there be to talk about?

Auburn not being on the list made me LOL.

And Stanford will be without luck and Oregon without Thomas and James.

USC will lose a conference game (probably on the road) that they have no business losing (like always).

It shouldn't have.

Like it or not on the SEC rant, Oregon's defense is a whole lot better this year. Oregon has had one of the top Pac defenses the last three years and this defense will far surpass those.
Losing Thomas will not hurt our offense. Losing James is tough but they have Barner and D'Anthony both combining for 1500 yards - it will not be that big of deal. I could actually see our offense take a step forward now that the passing game will open up with a good crop of receivers.

Why? What makes you think AU deserves it?

They were awefully young last year and clobbered Virginia in the bowl game. They went 8-5 and should improve on that.

Gotcha. It's all a projection for now anyways. I see AU in the same light as UF. With no business of being in any preseason poll. Way too many holes.

You must be thinking of flyinpac

I agree. Lot of their wins last year could have gone either way.

I could be proven wrong, but I would rather be proven wrong before claiming either of those teams will be top 25 good.

They pulled the USU game out of their asses. However, they were very young and should be return an entire oline from what I remember.

I certainly think that they will be improved in places. But changing coordinators isn't easy either, even if it is a good step-up on the defensive side. Chavis took a little while to get everything hitting on all cylinders at LSU. And I think they really will lose some production offensively. Experience, more, will help. They have some decent receivers. Need a few more guys to step up.
I think they're a bit of an anomaly at this point but I don't think it's unfair to not have them ranked.
