No I understood what you meant. You said "it's not an either or." But it is an either or. Again, the idea that it's not is a Big 10 fantasy. Then you said, it's "most likely" that the rose bowl would be one of the semis. That's not true either, regardless of context.
Anyway, I enjoyed lol'ing at your post. Good day to you sir.

I'm all for home playoff games if that is the compromise needed to get rid of the Rose Bowl and conference champ only issues. Home playoff games at least reward the top 2 teams in the country and ensure full stadiums.
I have to laugh at this Big Ten weather excuse though for 6 in a row. Playing in 70 degree weather in a Dome offers neither team any advantage. Playing in a snow packed stadium in Michigan on January 1 is a clear advantage for a bunch of kids used to cold weather vs. kids from Alabama who have never seen snow.

You're never gonna fix the playoff championship until you fix the conferences that determine who gets in.
I, of course, have a plan for this.

What's this plan of wise one?

You want it all in one shot? It may be a bit complex (read: make too much sense) for some of the home team gumps here.

i dont really have a problem with conference champs only. IF! if every eligible conference has a championship game. AND! THERE ARE NO EXEMPTIONS FOR INDEPENDENTS! everyone has to be in a conference to be eligible for the playoff. as for home and home. i prefer a pre determined sites. and, i prefer a 2 week separation between semis and the big one. with the big one being held as close to new years day as possible. as for the rose bowl. either chit, or get off the pot.

Now, understand, there is no perfect system. There has to be give-and-take from everyone. But if implemented, would make the schools a truckload of money for distribution. So take your shots at the process I propose, but realize that you can’t make everyone happy and I know that up front.
Since the BCS will go away, let’s call the “new thing” the BPS (Bowl Playoff System) for convenience.
- It would consist of an eight game playoff
- The first four games would be seeded and held at home team sites
- Reseed at this point but no further
- The semifinals and championship games would be rotated amongst the current bowl sites
That’s the overview. But FIRST, you gotta fix who gets in.
- True conference realignment is necessary
- There would be SIX conferences eligible to send member teams to the BPS.
- These conferences would be regionally based, 12 members each
- They would roughly correspond to the
---SEC
---PAC 12
---Big 10+2
---The conference known as “Texas and their butt buddies”
---The ACC
---Pick one other conference… Big East, Mountain West, it doesn’t really matter
- Each conference would have two six team divisions, with a round robin division schedule, four perm or rotating games from the opposite division, and three open games from other conferences
- ONE of the open games would not be scheduled by the schools but by the BPS commissioner at random or maybe even via a standings plan, for a home-and-home series you might never see otherwise in 100 years
- The six conference champions would be in the BPS.
- There would be two BPS at-large teams based on polls, committee, whatever- eight teams total
- Therefore 72 teams would be eligible for the Div 1 playoff BPS – essentially the money-makers as it currently stands
So what about the little guys who would never have a shot, you say? I say, let them play their way in. Every two years, the bottom ranked team in each of the six conferences ROTATE OUT. They have proven they can’t compete at this level. If you can’t win at least above the Mendoza line, you suck and deserve to be shown the door. Come back when you can earn it. SIX NEW TEAMS on a regional basis would rotate in. If they can’t hack it, they would rotate back out again pretty soon. This would bring in fresh blood, new matchups, and would still maintain regional rivalries. It gives new teams the opportunity to earn their way into the mix. It makes perennial losers be relegated to the new lower tier, who are still eligible for the Weedeater Bowl.
Anyway... if I were Grand Playoff Poobah, that's what I would do.

Buckeye06 represents your everyday, run of the mill, delusional Big Ten Fan.
They talk about how they never want to stop traveling thousands of miles to play the Pac 12 in the Rose Bowl(Home field of UCLA). They talk about how much that bowl means, the tradition, the parades, the hookers, blah blah.
Then they whine and whine about having to travel to Florida and NOLA to play BCS bowls in the "SEC's Backyard." They say Florida and NOLA is too far, and it isn't fair that the SEC has these games in their region. Please note that these games are NOT AT SEC stadiums(Or even SEC Cities) like the Rose Bowl is for the PAC 12.
Big Ten alumni/fans/admin also are starting to blame the weather for why they're so bad in BCS Bowl games. Apparently playing football in 70 degree weather is not fair for everyone in America.
The Big Ten Conference has become the punchline for jokes since 2006-2007 Ohio State choked and has done nothing to improve upon their image except whine and complain.

Not sure about that he keeps pimping for the Rose Bowl which last time I checked in an away game for Penn State
The Rose Bowl is the biggest money bowl outside of the NCG. It handily beats the other BCS bowls so why wouldn't he fight for it.
It beats out the Sugar Bowl because the Sugar Bowl always has to settle for bridesmaid teams because their marquee team always gets grabbed away by the BCSCG...and two teams in 2011. Out of the last 6 BCSCGs, and the 12 slots in those games, those two conferences have taken only three of those slots.

The bad weather argument is pretty dumb IMO. Do the Packers/Bears/Giants/Jets/Patriots have problems playing playoff games in the cold?
Alabama certainly had no problem with playing in freezing cold weather when they spanked a Big Ten team in Bear Bryant's last game.

Listen B1G no matter what you try to do to gain an advantage it is not going to work. The equation is simple, the best athletes are from the south and they stay in the south for school and play in the SEC. You can't come down here and get them so it pisses you off. Meanwhile, we go and pluck a blue chip out of every other state, including yours, and continue to make our teams stronger. So no matter how many rule changes you implement or changes of venue you fight for, it is still not going to change the product you put on the field. The next thing you are going to want is a rule restricting any SEC school, playing in non-conference games including post season, from blitzing
