Saw this in Stewart Mandel's SI column and few weeks ago. Sounds pretty good and easy too.
Use the existing BCS bowls to seed BCS 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3. Schedule NC game 10 days later for winners. The bowls stay intact and the people get a playoff. What says The Rant?

Same problems, just more teams involved.

Agree to some degree. Arguments on who makes the four but I think the winner would have unifed backing as NC

That is the "plus one" option that has been shot down by the BCS and NCAA ppl for a couple of years. It is a better solution than what exists now.
